Bluest Raspberry Xtremes Bites
Kroger’s displayed ingredients for its 6-ounce Bluest Raspberry Xtremes Bites listing do not name carmine or gelatin, and the retailer marks that specific listing vegan. That is not evidence about other Airheads products, nor a guarantee that a package with a different or updated formulation is suitable. Compare the current package ingredients with your own standard. Kroger’s Bluest Raspberry listing is the source for this product-specific designation.
Do Airheads have gelatin?
A SmartLabel entry for 6-ounce Rainbow Berry Xtremes Sourfuls lists gelatin. PETA describes gelatin as animal-derived, so the formulation shown in that entry is not vegan by ingredients. The entry reports an Airheads update dated March 28, 2024, and says the package is the most accurate reference; use the current label to confirm what is in a package today. Why do some guides call Airheads vegan?
PETA includes Airheads in broad guidance about popular treats described as vegan, while also advising readers to check labels because ingredients can change. That brand-level shorthand does not establish that every product in a range is vegan. Product-specific ingredient panels are more useful for deciding whether a particular flavor and format contains an animal-derived ingredient.
The official Airheads site shows that Xtremes come in multiple formats, including Bites and Sourfuls, so the name “Airheads” alone is not enough to identify an ingredient list. Do Airheads’ dairy or gluten statements mean they are vegan?
No. Dairy and gluten statements address different questions from vegan status. Airheads’ official FAQ says most products do not contain dairy, with Pops as a possible exception, but the company says it does not specifically test products for dairy and does not claim they are dairy-free. That statement does not resolve whether a candy contains gelatin, carmine, or another animal-derived ingredient.
The same FAQ says Airheads Bars tested with no gluten and identifies several Xtremes products as containing wheat. A gluten statement or test is not a vegan certification, and a dairy statement is not a complete animal-ingredient review. The sources reviewed do not establish a current complete ingredient list for every Airheads Bar flavor.

How to check whether a particular Airheads candy is vegan
- Match the exact product. Check the full name, flavor, and format on the package; Bites, Sourfuls, Bars, and other Airheads products can have different ingredients.
- Read the package’s current ingredient panel. Retailer and database listings can be useful clues, but their information can differ from the package or become outdated.
- Look for animal-derived ingredients. Carmine and gelatin are specifically listed in the cited Rainbow Berry formulations. Check for shellac and any other ingredients you avoid under your definition of vegan.
- Keep claims in their lane. Dairy, gluten, allergy, vegetarian, and vegan statements are not interchangeable. If the label or manufacturer information does not answer your question, do not assume the product is vegan.
