AppMagic announced a $3 million Series A on July 23, 2024, led by GEM Capital with a $2.5 million investment; Vibranium Venture Capital contributed $500,000. The funding was intended to improve the company’s mobile-app and game market-intelligence products and expand sales in four markets. The later status matters: Sensor Tower announced it had acquired AppMagic on May 12, 2026, and said the service would become its offering for small and medium-sized businesses.

What AppMagic announced in July 2024

The round was reported as a $3 million Series A. GEM Capital led it with $2.5 million, while Vibranium Venture Capital invested the remaining $500,000, according to GamesBeat’s contemporaneous report and Vibranium’s announcement. The available announcements do not provide a term sheet, valuation, or detailed breakdown of securities, so the amount should not be read as a company valuation or as an exit figure.

AppMagic was founded in 2016 by Max Samorukov, its CEO, and launched its product in 2018. GamesBeat reported that Samorukov had previously been chief product officer at mobile publisher Crazy Panda, and that the company raised $200,000 in seed funding from RoasUp in 2020.

What AppMagic’s platform does

AppMagic provides market intelligence about mobile apps and games. Its product offers estimates and analysis of downloads, revenue, rankings, regional and global performance, advertising activity, and live operations—the in-game events and updates publishers use to engage and monetize players. Its Success Meter was designed to surface attractive market segments, while its Live-Ops tool supported analysis of how games retain and monetize players.

These figures are market estimates, not audited financial results or a publisher’s internal analytics. Buyers should treat estimated revenue, downloads, retention, and usage as directional evidence, then compare them with their own first-party data and known market events. Coverage can vary by country, store, business model, and distribution channel.

How the company planned to use the funding

AppMagic said it would invest in research and development and build its commercial reach. The announced priorities were:

  • Product development: add features and data types, and improve the accuracy of existing estimates.
  • Sales expansion: establish dedicated sales teams serving the United States, China, South Korea, and Japan.

The announcement described these as plans, not completed expansions. It did not identify the funding as intended for an acquisition or consumer product launch.

Why the round mattered in 2024

The financing came after Sensor Tower acquired data.ai, formerly App Annie, in 2024. That combination intensified consolidation among major app-intelligence providers. AppMagic presented itself as an alternative, emphasizing usability, filtering, gaming data, and flexible access for smaller businesses. Those points describe the company’s positioning and investor thesis; they do not establish an independently verified market ranking or prove that its estimates were more accurate or less expensive than competitors’ products.

For studios, publishers, and investors, the strategic question was whether a smaller specialist could improve its data and reach enough customers to compete while larger platforms combined products and resources. The Series A was intended to support that effort, especially through product development and sales coverage in important mobile markets.

What buyers should check when evaluating app-intelligence data

A platform’s apparent breadth does not guarantee that it covers the channels relevant to a particular publisher. Alternative Android stores, web shops, direct billing, and cross-platform releases can make market estimates less complete. Before using any vendor’s figures for a budget, acquisition decision, or competitor comparison, check:

  • Store and country coverage: confirm coverage for the specific iOS and Android storefronts, countries, genres, and app categories you need.
  • Revenue model coverage: ask how the service handles subscriptions, in-app purchases, advertising, paid downloads, and sales outside official stores.
  • Methodology and uncertainty: find out how estimates are built, how often they update, and whether the vendor explains confidence limits.
  • Validation: compare estimates for several known apps with your own first-party results, and check whether major changes align with launches, promotions, or updates.
  • Workflow and access: verify historical depth, API and export access, plan limits, contract terms, and continuity of data you depend on.

AppMagic’s status after the funding round

On May 12, 2026, Sensor Tower announced that it had acquired AppMagic. Sensor Tower said AppMagic would serve as its dedicated solution for small and medium-sized businesses, citing its mobile-market research and gaming focus. The acquisition announcement did not disclose a purchase price. AppMagic should therefore not be described today as an independent competitor without noting the acquisition.

The announcement establishes the ownership change and intended SMB role, but it does not settle every buyer question about the transition. Customers should confirm directly with Sensor Tower whether the original brand remains available, how existing plans, APIs, exports, terms, and historical data are handled, and whether products or pricing have changed. Sensor Tower’s legal page places AppMagic terms within its legal framework; it does not by itself establish current plan details.

Other options for app market intelligence

Sensor Tower

Sensor Tower is the owner of AppMagic and offers broader app, advertising, gaming, audience, and digital-economy intelligence. It may suit organizations seeking a wider platform, while a smaller studio should check whether the scope and commercial terms fit its needs. The company’s official site emphasizes demo and free-sign-up routes rather than publishing a universal price for the full platform.

Similarweb App Intelligence

Similarweb App Intelligence combines app analysis with web intelligence and covers downloads, rankings, ratings, usage, sessions, retention, revenue, audiences, reviews, and SDKs. It may fit teams that need app-and-web benchmarking; its pricing page directs buyers to sales rather than listing a public standalone price. A gaming-focused team or a buyer requiring transparent self-serve pricing should confirm fit before choosing it.

Specialized app-store optimization, advertising-intelligence, attribution, or in-product analytics tools can be more appropriate when a team needs only one function. They are not direct substitutes for broad market-estimate platforms unless their store, geographic, and gaming coverage matches the research task.
