Apple’s $95 million Siri privacy settlement was real, but the deadline to file a claim was July 2, 2025. As of August 18, 2026, new claims are generally closed; the settlement administrator says payments began January 23, 2026. If you filed on time, use the official settlement website to check your payment. If you did not, be cautious of messages or sites promising that you can still claim money.
What was the Apple Siri settlement?
The case, Lopez v. Apple Inc., was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as case 4:19-cv-04577-JSW. Apple agreed to a $95 million settlement over allegations that Siri could activate unintentionally during private or confidential conversations and that resulting audio was obtained by Apple or shared with third parties. The court-appointed settlement website identifies the case and reports its current status.
A settlement resolves claims; it is not a court finding that Apple spied on users. Apple denied wrongdoing and did not admit liability as part of the settlement.
What did the lawsuit allege—and what does “activation” mean?
The allegations concerned more than Siri being available to respond to its wake phrase or processing an ordinary voice command. Plaintiffs alleged that Siri sometimes activated without a deliberate request while people were having conversations they intended to be private, and that recordings from unintended activations were handled in ways that violated their rights. The settlement FAQs describe the claims resolved by the agreement.

- Premium, immersive, high-fidelity audio
Several distinct events should not be treated as interchangeable: a device detecting a possible wake phrase, Siri activating, audio being transmitted or stored, a person reviewing a recording, and alleged disclosure to a third party. The settlement does not establish that every event occurred for every user or that every Siri interaction was recorded. Background reporting on the case and Apple’s statements is available from the Associated Press.
Who was eligible to participate?
To qualify, a person generally had to meet the settlement’s requirements, including having a qualifying experience during the class period and filing by the deadline. The official eligibility FAQs describe the class as people in the United States or its territories who:
- Owned or purchased a Siri-enabled Apple device, as a current or former owner or purchaser.
- Had Siri enabled on that device.
- Experienced an unintended Siri activation during a conversation intended to be confidential or private.
- Had the relevant experience between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
- Submitted a valid claim by July 2, 2025.
Covered products were not limited to iPhones. Reporting based on court documents identified iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, and Apple TV as examples of Siri-enabled devices in the settlement. Device ownership by itself did not establish eligibility. See Axios’s coverage of the covered devices.

How much could a claimant receive?
The settlement terms provided for up to $20 per qualifying Siri device, for as many as five devices. That made $100 the nominal maximum before deductions—not a guaranteed payment to each claimant. The fund also had to cover approved fees, expenses, administration costs, and other court-authorized payments, and claimant payments were subject to pro-rata distribution. The settlement approval document sets out the payment terms.
Can you still file a claim?
Ordinarily, no. The claim deadline was July 2, 2025, and the settlement administrator reports that distribution of class payments began January 23, 2026. The official site also lists an August 22, 2025 final approval hearing. Its current status page is the place to verify those dates.
If you did not submit a claim by the deadline, do not assume that contacting Apple, changing Siri settings, or submitting a late form will create a right to payment. The ordinary claim period has closed. If you believe an unusual circumstance applies, ask the settlement administrator or a lawyer; do not rely on a third-party site promising that a late claim will be accepted.

If you filed, how can you check on a payment?
- Start at the official settlement website, rather than a link in an unsolicited message.
- Check the email address used for your claim, including spam, junk, and promotional folders, for a digital-payment notice.
- Check your physical mail if you expected a paper payment.
- Gather your claim confirmation, claim ID, and any administrator correspondence, if available.
- Use the administrator’s official contact page to ask about your claim or an undelivered payment. The site lists 1-888-981-4106; verify the number on that page before calling because contact information can change.
Do not submit a duplicate claim unless the administrator specifically tells you to. Be wary of messages asking for sensitive information or payment to release settlement funds; navigate to the official site yourself to verify any notice.
What Apple said—and what the settlement does not establish
Apple maintained that Siri was designed to protect privacy and denied the alleged wrongdoing. Contemporary reporting attributed to Apple the position that Siri data was not used to build marketing profiles or sold for advertising. Those are Apple’s statements, not findings that resolve every question about the allegations. See the contemporary report on Apple’s position and the Associated Press account.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe settlement does not prove that Apple deliberately listened to every user, that every Siri owner qualified, or that changing privacy settings entitles someone to compensation. It resolved the claims covered by this case; a question about an unrelated privacy dispute is separate and may depend on the facts and applicable law.
