That was technically $99.01 off, commonly rounded to $100 off.
This was a historical U.S. promotion, not a current August 2026 price. The discount came from Amazon—not Apple—and availability depended on stock, color, coupon eligibility, and checkout timing.

Early Black Friday deal coverage reported the $399.99 price, while a later update reported the discount expanding to additional colors and models. The clearest recurring offer was the 128GB Wi‐Fi version.

Apple announced the new tablet in October 2024 and said it would be available beginning October 23. A roughly 20% reduction so soon after launch was unusually aggressive for a new Apple tablet, according to contemporaneous deal coverage.

Apple’s official name is iPad mini (A17 Pro). “iPad mini 7” is common media and retailer shorthand for the seventh-generation iPad mini, so both names refer to the product readers were searching for.
What buyers got for $399.99
The discounted model included an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, Apple’s A17 Pro chip, Apple Pencil Pro support, Wi‐Fi 6E, and a 12MP rear camera. Apple also positioned the device as supporting Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence availability was not simply guaranteed by buying the hardware. Features depended on compatible software, supported languages, region, and Apple’s rollout schedule. The Apple Pencil Pro and a protective case were also separate purchases.

Was it available on Black Friday?
The promotion began as an early Black Friday deal in early November, rather than starting only on Black Friday itself. It was still included in major Black Friday iPad deal coverage published November 23, 2024. Black Friday fell on November 29 that year, but that does not mean the $399.99 price was guaranteed to remain available through that date.
Prices could change by color, inventory, seller, coupon eligibility, or retailer. “All-time low” descriptions should likewise be understood as claims from deal coverage, not a universal price-history record across every retailer.

How to verify the price at checkout
- Open the retailer listing and select the 128GB Wi‐Fi model.
- Confirm the seller, color, and condition. Do not assume a cellular or 256GB model qualifies for the same price.
- Clip any visible Amazon coupon.
- Add the tablet to your cart and continue far enough to see the applied promotion.
- Confirm that the subtotal is approximately $399.99 before tax.
- Review shipping, delivery timing, the return window, and warranty coverage before paying.
Taxes and any shipping charges could raise the final transaction total. A product page showing $499 did not necessarily mean the promotion was unavailable; the coupon or checkout step may have been required. Conversely, do not count on a discount until it appears in the cart or checkout total.
Was the iPad mini 7 worth buying at $399.99?
For the right buyer, yes. The main reason to choose the iPad mini was its compact size—not simply the percentage discount. It offered current Apple hardware in a much smaller body than the standard iPad or iPad Air.

It was a strong fit for buyers who:
- Wanted the smallest current iPad.
- Prioritized portability for reading, travel, notes, and casual use.
- Wanted the A17 Pro platform and potential Apple Intelligence features.
- Planned to use Apple Pencil Pro for notes, drawing, or markup.
- Could work comfortably with 128GB of storage.
- Already relied on Apple’s ecosystem and tablet apps.
Another iPad may have been better for buyers who:
- Wanted the largest display for video, split-screen work, or drawing.
- Needed a keyboard-centered laptop replacement.
- Required more than 128GB for games, offline video, or creative files.
- Needed cellular connectivity.
- Could buy an iPad mini 6 substantially cheaper without needing the newer chip.
Compare like with like: 128GB Wi‐Fi against 128GB Wi‐Fi, new against new, and include the cost of accessories, protection, tax, and optional AppleCare+. A refurbished tablet may be cheaper, but it should not be treated as equivalent to a new unit without checking its warranty, condition, return policy, and seller.
Other retailers and alternatives
Some shopper reports also cited a comparable $399.99 price at Costco for members, reportedly through December 2, 2024 or while supplies lasted. That was separate from Amazon’s offer and subject to Costco membership and retailer-specific inventory. It should not be read as proof that Apple sold the tablet for $399.99.
The standard iPad offered a larger screen for general household use. The iPad Air was better suited to larger-screen productivity and higher-end accessories, usually at a higher price. A refurbished iPad mini 6 could be the better value if its price was substantially lower, although it lacked the A17 Pro platform and newer associated features. Android compact tablets were another lower-cost option for buyers who did not need Apple’s ecosystem.
Bottom line for shoppers
The headline was substantially accurate but incomplete: Amazon’s 128GB Wi‐Fi iPad mini (A17 Pro) was reported at $399.99 during Black Friday 2024, down from $499. It was a legitimate early-Black-Friday deal, not an Apple Store-wide price cut and not a guarantee that every iPad mini configuration received the same discount.
For shoppers who valued a small, current Apple tablet, $399.99 was an attractive price. Buyers focused on screen size, storage, cellular service, or laptop-style productivity had good reason to compare other iPad models instead.
