Apple’s Earth Day 2025 promotion was real, but it is no longer available. From April 16 through May 16, 2025, customers who recycled an eligible device at an Apple Store could receive 10% off an Apple accessory. It was not 10% off a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, and it was not a 10% bonus added to normal trade-in credit.
As of September 8, 2026, anyone seeing this offer shared online should treat it as expired. Apple’s current Trade In program remains available, but its purpose is to provide credit or an Apple Gift Card—or recycle devices that have no trade-in value.
What Apple’s 2025 Earth Day promotion actually offered
Apple announced the offer on April 16, 2025, as part of its Earth Day environmental campaign. The company said customers could receive 10% off an Apple accessory after recycling an eligible item in an Apple Store.
The promotion ran from April 16 through May 16, 2025. It was described as an in-store recycling incentive connected with Apple Trade In and Apple’s free recycling service.
#1 Best Overall
- DESIGNED BY APPLE — Ideal for charging, syncing, and transferring data between USB-C devices, this 2-meter charge cable is made with a woven design and has USB-C connectors on both ends.
- FAST AND CONVENIENT CHARGING — Supports charging of up to 240 watts and transfers data at USB 2 rates. Pair the USB-C Charge Cable with a compatible USB-C power adapter to conveniently charge your devices from a wall outlet and even take advantage of the fast-charging feature on select iPhone and Mac models.
- WHAT’S IN THE BOX — Apple USB-C Woven Charge Cable only. Power adapter sold separately.
- CABLE LENGTH — 2 meters (6 feet).
That distinction matters because headlines calling it a “10% trade-in deal” can suggest a much broader saving than Apple actually offered. The promotion was not advertised as:
- 10% off a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch;
- 10% extra trade-in value;
- 10% off an entire Apple Store purchase; or
- a discount automatically available with an online trade-in.
Apple’s surviving first-party announcement confirms the discount applied to an Apple accessory. It does not establish that every Apple accessory qualified, so readers should not assume that all accessories or third-party products were included.

Why “trade-in” is not quite the right description
A normal trade-in and a recycling promotion can produce different outcomes:
| Option | What happens | Typical result |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Trade In | Apple assesses the device’s model and condition. | Credit toward a purchase or an Apple Gift Card if the device has value. |
| Free recycling | Apple accepts a device that may have little or no resale value. | No payment, but responsible recycling at no charge. |
| 2025 Earth Day promotion | An eligible device was recycled in an Apple Store during the promotional period. | 10% off an eligible Apple accessory, subject to the applicable terms. |
A broken, obsolete, or low-value device might not qualify for trade-in credit but could still be accepted for free recycling. Apple’s current Trade In guidance says devices that are not eligible for credit can still be recycled for free.
Which devices qualified?
Apple’s 2025 announcement used the broader wording “eligible item” or “eligible device.” Contemporary coverage described the eligible categories generally as including:

- CABLE LENGTH — 1 meter (3 feet).
- iPhone
- iPad
- Mac
- Apple Watch
However, the complete surviving 2025 first-party product list is not clear from Apple’s announcement. The list above should therefore be treated as a cautious description of the reported categories, not a guarantee that every model, condition, or device qualified.
Apple’s later 2026 Earth Day terms specifically listed eligible devices and provide useful context, but they should not be treated as proof that the 2025 terms were identical.
How the 2025 deal worked
Historically, the redemption path was broadly:
- Visit a participating physical Apple Store between April 16 and May 16, 2025.
- Ask an Apple Specialist whether the device qualified for the Earth Day recycling promotion.
- Choose an eligible Apple accessory.
- Complete the recycling and accessory purchase in the applicable store transaction.
- Receive the 10% discount at checkout.
The 2025 announcement specifically referred to recycling in an Apple Store. It should not be read as saying that an online trade-in order automatically created eligibility for the discount.
Contemporary reporting said customers could receive the discount for each eligible recycled device, up to five devices. Because Apple’s surviving announcement does not show the complete 2025 terms, that limit is best described as a reported promotional condition rather than a universal rule for every location.
Was recycling available online?
The promotion was presented as an in-store offer. A customer who mailed in a device through a standard online trade-in process should not assume that the Earth Day accessory discount applied.

- Durable Design: Reinforced nylon exterior and a robust core ensure this cable withstands up to 5,000 bends, outlasting other brands
- Fast Charging: Supports Power Delivery for up to 60W high-speed charging when paired with a USB-C charger
- Versatile Compatibility: Works with virtually all USB-C devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops
- High-Speed Data Transfer: Transfer files quickly with 480Mbps data transfer speeds

Apple’s 2026 U.S. terms for a similar promotion required in-store recycling and an in-store purchase, while excluding online orders, Apple Store app orders, pickup orders, and ship-to-home orders. Those are 2026 rules, not confirmed 2025 rules, but they illustrate why the physical-store requirement mattered.

Choose trade-in when the device has meaningful value
Apple Trade In may be convenient if you are buying another Apple product or prefer Apple credit. Depending on the device, model, configuration, and condition, Apple may offer credit toward a purchase or an Apple Gift Card. Current values change, so use Apple’s live estimate rather than relying on an old advertised figure.
Apple is not necessarily the highest-paying option. Compare the estimated Apple value with at least one cash buyback service, carrier or retailer program, and private-sale option before accepting.
Choose recycling when the device has little resale value
Free recycling can make sense when a device is broken, obsolete, locked, or too damaged to receive meaningful credit. It may also be preferable when convenience and responsible disposal matter more than maximizing the payout.

- Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to your USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) enabled Mac for syncing and charging, or to your USB-C enabled iPad for charging.
- You can also use this cable with your Apple 18W, 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W or 96W USB‑C Power Adapter to charge your iOS device and even take advantage of the fast-charging feature on select iPhone and iPad models.
- USB-C power adapters sold separately.
- Cable Length: 2 meter or 6 feet
Do not recycle a valuable device solely to obtain 10% off a low-cost accessory. The discount may be smaller than the amount you could gain by selling the device or choosing a cheaper retailer for the accessory.

A 10% discount sounds substantial, but the dollar saving depends on the accessory’s price. Before accepting a future offer of this type, compare:
- Apple’s discounted price with prices at authorized retailers;
- the device’s likely private-sale or buyback value;
- any shipping, service, or marketplace fees;
- whether the proceeds are cash or Apple-only credit; and
- the time and privacy costs of each option.
For example, saving $3 on a $30 accessory may be less valuable than receiving substantially more by selling a still-working iPhone elsewhere. Conversely, recycling a worthless device may be sensible if the accessory price remains competitive and you value the convenience.

How the 2026 promotion relates to the 2025 offer
Apple ran a separate, similar Earth Day recycling promotion from April 16 through May 16, 2026. Its U.S. terms provide more detailed conditions, including same-transaction requirements and exclusions for online orders.
That later promotion should not be used to rewrite the 2025 rules. Promotions can differ by year, country, participating store, accessory list, tax treatment, and device eligibility. For any future campaign, read the applicable terms for the exact region and dates.
Bottom line for readers seeing the old deal online
Apple’s Earth Day 2025 deal was genuine, but the headline needs correction: it offered 10% off an Apple accessory after in-store recycling of an eligible device, not 10% off new Apple hardware and not an extra 10% in trade-in credit. The offer ended May 16, 2025.
Today, check Apple’s current trade-in estimate, compare it with cash and private-sale alternatives, or use Apple’s free recycling route if the device has no meaningful value.
