Was Maestri’s move a resignation or retirement?
The official information supports describing it as a planned succession and internal promotion. Apple did not present the change as a surprise resignation, firing or retirement, and Maestri remained in a senior executive role.
Because Parekh was already an Apple finance executive and the transition was announced months before it took effect, the change suggests continuity in Apple’s finance leadership. That is an interpretation of the succession structure, however—not a claim that the change had no effect on Apple’s business or investors.

Why the old headline still causes confusion
Search results, archived articles and syndicated reports can continue to display the original future-tense wording. “Will step down” was accurate before January 1, 2025. After that date, accurate descriptions are “stepped down,” “left the CFO role” or “was succeeded as CFO.”
It is also important to distinguish leaving a job from leaving a company. Maestri left Apple’s CFO position, but he did not leave Apple.
What this means for Apple investors
The official record establishes a scheduled internal succession, not evidence by itself of financial trouble or a leadership crisis. It also does not establish how investors viewed the move or what effect it had on Apple’s stock or operations. Those conclusions would require separate market and business evidence.
As of the dated status above, there is no separate current CFO departure established by the reviewed Apple leadership materials and SEC filings.
