Correction: The headline’s two-incident limit is outdated for accidental damage under current U.S. AppleCare+ terms. For plans purchased since September 9, 2026, Apple’s contract allows unlimited accidental-damage service events while the plan is active. Each event still carries a service fee.
How many accidental-damage claims does AppleCare+ cover?
Under Apple’s U.S. terms for plans purchased since September 9, 2026, accidental-damage service events are unlimited while the plan remains active. Apple said the U.S. limit changed in September 2022. Its September 7, 2022 notice stated that a plan would protect a covered device from “unlimited incidents of accidental damage from handling (instead of two incidents every 12 months)” while active and in effect. This scope matters: those current contract terms are for the United States and plans bought since September 9, 2026. They do not establish the rules for every region or for plans purchased earlier. Check the terms linked to your own plan confirmation before relying on the U.S. limit.
What accidental damage qualifies?
Apple’s U.S. contract describes accidental damage from handling as damage caused by an unexpected and unintentional external event, such as a drop or liquid contact. The damage must affect the device’s functionality. Apple may repair or exchange covered equipment, subject to the contract and the applicable service fee. Apple’s AppleCare+ terms

- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality is excluded.
- Normal wear and tear is excluded.
- Damage caused by reckless, abusive, willful, or intentional conduct is excluded.
- Lost or stolen devices are not accidental-damage claims.
- Coverage applies to the equipment identified in the plan confirmation, not third-party, non-Apple-branded devices or accessories.
Does unlimited coverage mean repairs are free?
No. Unlimited refers to the number of qualifying service events during the active plan term, not free service. The current U.S. contract lists these iPhone accidental-damage fees for plans purchased since September 9, 2026; applicable taxes are additional. Fees vary by device and damage type. A cracked screen may qualify if the damage meets the contract’s criteria. The screen-only fee applies to qualifying screen-only damage; damage beyond that category may fall under the other accidental-damage fee.

Is theft and loss coverage subject to the same limit?
No. Apple lists theft and loss separately from accidental damage. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss includes up to two theft-or-loss incidents every 12 months, while the current U.S. accidental-damage terms allow unlimited service events during the active plan term. AppleCare+ overview

- Find your AppleCare+ plan confirmation and identify the plan’s purchase date and covered device.
- Check the contract for the country or service region tied to your plan. The terms cited here cover the United States, not all regions.
- Review the fee for the specific device and damage category, and confirm whether the plan includes theft and loss coverage.
