Apple presented year-over-year revenue growth as 10% when rounded. The “9.6%” in the original headline referred to net-income growth in contemporary coverage, not Apple’s official revenue-growth figure. Apple announced the results on July 31, 2025.
What the headline was actually describing
This was Apple’s fiscal Q3 2025, commonly called the June quarter. It was a quarterly result—not annual revenue, a forecast, or the third calendar quarter—and the reporting period ended June 28, 2025.
The original headline, “Apple Revenues Up 9.6 Percent to $94 Billion,” is materially imprecise. Apple’s release rounded revenue growth to 10% year over year. The accompanying contemporary report described revenue growth at approximately 9.2% and net-income growth at 9.6%, so the headline appears to have transferred the profit-growth percentage to revenue. The original report and Apple’s release show the distinction.
Apple’s reported financial results
| Metric | Fiscal Q3 2025 | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | Approximately $94.0 billion | 10% on Apple’s rounded presentation |
| Net income | Approximately $23.4 billion | Approximately 9.6% in contemporary reporting |
| Diluted earnings per share | $1.57 | 12% |
| Period ended | June 28, 2025 | — |
Apple described the result as a June-quarter revenue record, with double-digit growth in iPhone, Mac, and Services and growth in every geographic segment. The detailed figures come from Apple’s consolidated financial statements.

Which product categories drove the quarter?
| Category | Revenue | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Approximately $44.6 billion | Up about 13.5% |
| Services | Approximately $27.4 billion | Up about 13%; record |
| Mac | Approximately $8.0 billion | Up about 15% |
| iPad | Approximately $6.6 billion | Down about 8% |
| Wearables, Home and Accessories | Approximately $7.4 billion | Down about 9% |
The total was strong, but demand was not uniformly strong across Apple’s portfolio. Growth was concentrated in iPhone, Services, and Mac, while iPad and Wearables, Home and Accessories declined.
Why iPhone was the largest driver
At approximately $44.6 billion, iPhone represented roughly 47% of quarterly revenue and was the largest contributor to the year-over-year increase. That makes iPhone the clearest explanation for the revenue result. Apple reports category revenue, not a complete unit-sales series, so the figures do not by themselves establish whether higher sales came from unit demand, product mix, pricing, upgrades, regional differences, or purchases made ahead of possible tariff changes.

One strong quarter also does not prove that iPhone demand had entered a permanent recovery. A durable conclusion would require several periods of results and additional information about units, mix, and margins.
Services remained the structural growth engine
Services generated approximately $27.4 billion, making it Apple’s second-largest reported category and a record for the quarter. The category includes businesses such as subscriptions, advertising, licensing, and the App Store ecosystem; it should not be treated as entirely subscription revenue.

- Services growth helped offset declines in iPad and the Wearables, Home and Accessories group.
- Its mix of recurring and semi-recurring businesses can be less cyclical than device sales.
- Category revenue growth alone does not establish Services’ operating-margin growth, because Apple does not report profitability in the same detailed category format.
Mac grew quickly while two categories contracted
Mac revenue rose approximately 15% to about $8.0 billion, placing it among the fastest-growing reported categories in the quarter. Apple’s refreshed lineup and Apple-silicon adoption provide relevant product context, but the reported figures do not isolate how much either factor contributed.
iPad revenue fell approximately 8% to $6.6 billion. Wearables, Home and Accessories revenue fell approximately 9% to $7.4 billion. Those declines are why a record total should not be read as evidence that every Apple business was expanding.

China was a positive quarter and an ongoing risk
Apple said every geographic segment grew. Contemporary coverage highlighted Greater China net sales of approximately $15.4 billion, up about 4% year over year. That improvement was reported in contemporaneous earnings coverage.
China therefore helped the quarter, but one increase is not a definitive turnaround. Local competition, consumer demand, supply-chain exposure, and geopolitical or tariff developments remain relevant vulnerabilities. The result supports “sales increased year over year,” not a claim that Apple’s China problems were resolved.

Tariffs and possible pull-forward demand
Contemporary coverage reported that Apple incurred approximately $800 million in tariff-related costs during the quarter and expected possible exposure of about $1.1 billion in the following quarter if then-current rates and policies continued. Those figures were management commentary and an expectation reported at the time, not a permanent cost structure or a subsequently confirmed amount.
Coverage also discussed customers or companies buying ahead of potential tariffs. Such pull-forward demand can make one quarter look stronger while borrowing sales from a later period. Tariff policy is time-sensitive, so these comments must be read in the policy context of July 2025 rather than treated as a standing forecast.
What the quarter said—and did not say—about AI
Apple’s release referenced additional Apple Intelligence features introduced at WWDC25. Contemporary earnings coverage also reported that CEO Tim Cook said Apple would significantly increase AI investment and was open to acquisitions that could accelerate its AI roadmap. The AI comments were strategic and forward-looking.
AI was not a separately reported source of fiscal Q3 revenue. The quarter’s disclosed revenue drivers were iPhone, Services, Mac, and geographic performance. Apple Intelligence was therefore an investment and product-development theme, not a demonstrated revenue line that can be credited with causing the $94 billion result.

How to interpret the result
- Strong June-quarter performance: Revenue reached a quarterly record for Apple’s June period, with diluted EPS up 12%.
- Concentrated growth: iPhone, Services, and Mac supplied the momentum while iPad and Wearables, Home and Accessories declined.
- Services momentum: The record Services result points to continued importance of Apple’s ecosystem businesses, although revenue growth is not the same as disclosed segment-profit growth.
- Timing and exposure: China’s improvement and possible tariff-related pull-forward purchases helped the near-term picture but do not eliminate structural risks.
- AI still ahead of the income statement: Management increased the strategic emphasis on AI, but the reported quarter did not attribute revenue to Apple Intelligence.
What happened afterward
This is historical reporting about the July 31, 2025 announcement. Apple reported another fiscal third-quarter result in July 2026, so the 2025 June-quarter figures are no longer the company’s latest Q3 results. See Apple’s fiscal Q3 2026 release for the later period; its figures should not be merged with the 2025 analysis.
