Apple Expects to Buy Well Over 100 Million Arizona-Made Chips in 2026

Apple expects well over 100 million advanced chips from TSMC’s Arizona site in 2026. Here’s how that forecast fits with current production and future fab plans.

Apple expects to buy well over 100 million advanced chips made at TSMC’s Arizona site during 2026, the company said on February 24, 2026. That is a forecast for the calendar year, not a final shipment count. The expected volume marks a major increase from 2025 as TSMC expands a campus that already has one fab in production and several more at different stages of planning and construction.

How many Apple chips will TSMC make in Arizona?

Apple said it was on track to purchase well over 100 million advanced chips produced by TSMC in Arizona in 2026, a significant increase from 2025. The figure describes Apple’s expected purchases during the year; it is not a reported final total. Apple’s February 24, 2026 update did not identify the specific chip designs or device models that would use Arizona output.

Apple also reported sourcing more than 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states. That larger number covers its nationwide supplier network—not TSMC’s Arizona campus alone.

What is operating at TSMC’s Arizona campus?

First fab: production underway

TSMC says its first Arizona fab began high-volume production using its N4 process in the fourth quarter of 2024. This is the campus’s operating fab; the later facilities described by TSMC are at different stages and should not be counted as completed production capacity. TSMC’s current Arizona overview lists the site’s status and targets.

Second and third fabs: future milestones

TSMC targets volume production on the second fab’s N3 process in the second half of 2027. The third fab is slated to produce using N2 and A16 processes by the end of the decade. These are company targets, not dates on which production is already occurring.

Further construction and the broader site plan

TSMC says initial construction stages began in early 2026 for a fourth fab and the campus’s first advanced packaging fab. Its current plan calls for six logic wafer fabs, two advanced packaging facilities, and an R&D center. Those numbers describe the announced plan, not a count of completed buildings.

How Arizona fits into Apple’s U.S. chip supply chain

Chip production involves more than fabricating wafers. Apple describes a wider U.S. chain that includes suppliers, wafer fabrication, and downstream packaging and testing. It says Amkor’s planned Arizona facility will package and test Apple silicon manufactured at the nearby TSMC fab. The facility is part of the supply-chain picture, but it is a planned operation rather than evidence that all Arizona-made chips are already packaged there. Apple’s August 2025 update describes the manufacturing program and supplier plans.

For perspective, Apple said in 2025 that its U.S. silicon supply chain was on track to produce more than 19 billion chips that year. That historical target covers the broader U.S. chain and is not directly comparable to the 2026 figure for Apple’s expected purchases from TSMC’s Arizona site.

What the investment figure does—and does not—mean

TSMC’s current Arizona overview lists $265 billion in announced U.S. investment, reflecting expansion beyond its original $12 billion commitment and including intent announced in July 2026. The $265 billion is an announced investment figure, not a report that this amount has already been spent. It also does not indicate how much of the planned campus is operating today.

Why older Arizona production dates may differ

TSMC’s schedules have changed over time. Its December 2022 announcement projected N3 production in 2026, while its April 2024 announcement gave different timing for the second and third fabs. The current site overview now targets second-half 2027 volume production for the second fab and production from the third by the end of the decade. For the latest stated milestones, use TSMC’s current overview rather than the earlier targets. TSMC’s December 2022 announcement and April 8, 2024 announcement provide the historical context.

What this means for consumers and investors

The announced Arizona expansion gives Apple another U.S.-based source for advanced chips and adds domestic fabrication and planned packaging capacity to its supply chain. But the public figures do not show which Apple products will use the Arizona-made chips, how many will ultimately be delivered, or whether Arizona output will change device prices, chip performance, or manufacturing costs. The cited company statements also do not provide a like-for-like comparison of Arizona and Taiwan production costs or yields.

For personal-finance purposes, the figures are best read as company forecasts and infrastructure plans—not as a direct indication of lower prices, a particular product launch, or a measurable investment return.
