Apple Cash’s Instant Transfer fee increased on February 18, 2026, and the higher rate is already in effect: transferring money instantly to an eligible debit card now costs 1.7%, with a $0.25 minimum and $25 maximum. The change does not apply to the standard transfer to a bank account, which remains free and typically takes one to three business days.
What changed, and when?
The fee change took effect February 18, 2026. Apple’s current Apple Cash terms and transfer information list the new rate, so this is no longer an upcoming increase.

The minimum stayed the same; both the percentage and maximum increased. The change was reported ahead of its effective date by MacRumors.
Which Apple Cash transactions have the fee?
The 1.7% charge applies when you move money from Apple Cash to an eligible U.S.-issued debit card using Instant Transfer. Apple deducts the fee from the transfer amount and displays the exact charge before you confirm. An eligible card must be used; not every debit card saved in Wallet qualifies. This is not a general fee on Apple Cash. It does not apply to sending or receiving Apple Cash between people, making Apple Pay purchases, or using the standard, non-instant transfer to a linked bank account. Apple describes Apple Cash and its features on its Apple Cash support page.
How much does an Instant Transfer cost?
The fee is calculated at 1.7%, rounded to the nearest cent, subject to the $0.25 minimum and $25 maximum. The following examples use the current fee terms; the amount shown for your transfer before confirmation is the one to rely on.

For a $1 transfer, the $0.25 minimum works out to an effective 25% of the amount transferred; Apple’s listed rate is still 1.7%, not 25%. The $25 cap is reached at about $1,470.59, an arithmetic calculation from the rate and cap in the Apple Cash and Green Dot terms. Before the change, a $1,000 transfer cost $15 because of the old maximum; at the current rate it costs $17.
How to transfer Apple Cash to your bank for free
Choose the standard bank-transfer route rather than Instant Transfer. Apple’s current interface instructions may vary by iOS or iPadOS version, but the documented path is:

- Open Wallet.
- Tap your Apple Cash card.
- Tap the More button.
- Choose Transfer to Bank.
- Select the standard bank-transfer option, not the instant debit-card option.
- Enter the amount and confirm the transfer.
The standard bank transfer is free and typically takes one to three business days. That timeframe is not guaranteed: account issues or security checks can delay availability. Check any bank details carefully before confirming; Apple warns that incorrect information can send money to the wrong account and recovery may not be possible.
When is paying for Instant Transfer worthwhile?
Instant Transfer may make sense when you need the money quickly and the convenience is worth the fee—for example, when a bill deadline or urgent purchase cannot wait for the standard transfer. It is less attractive when you can wait, particularly for larger amounts: a $1,000 instant transfer costs $17, while the standard bank transfer has no fee.

Instant usually means fast, not guaranteed immediate. Apple says transfers typically post immediately but may take up to 30 minutes; security checks can take additional time. If a transfer appears delayed, check its status before trying again so you do not create confusion with duplicate attempts.

What you need
- An eligible U.S.-issued debit card is required for Instant Transfer. If a card stored in Wallet is rejected, contact the card issuer or use a bank transfer if available.
- Apple’s instructions require a supported device with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS for transfers.
- Apple Cash is available in the 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Adults must be at least 18 and U.S. residents to send and receive money with an Apple Cash account; minors may use Apple Cash Family under a family organizer.
- Identity verification, account review, restrictions, or a locked account can prevent or delay a transfer. These are account issues, not part of the fee increase.

Apple says Instant Transfer fees do not count toward the transfer limit. Apple or Green Dot Bank may set lower limits or delay, block, or cancel a transaction for security reasons or as otherwise permitted by the terms. Apple Cash services are provided by Green Dot Bank, Member FDIC; Apple Payments Services LLC acts as Apple’s service provider, and Apple itself is not a bank.
