What is changing with Apple Card?
Chase is the planned new issuer of Apple Card. Goldman Sachs is the current issuer and will continue servicing users until the transition is complete, according to Apple’s transition FAQ. Apple and Chase announced the agreement on January 7, 2026; Apple’s announcement describes a transition expected to take approximately 24 months, not a handover scheduled for 2026. The change remains subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

An issuer is the financial institution responsible for the card account. Mastercard is the payment network that processes payments, and Apple says it will remain the network. That means the issuer is changing, while the announced network is not.
Do Apple Card users need to do anything now?
No. Apple’s FAQ says no action is required from cardholders at this time. Apple says it will provide further details directly as the transition date approaches. Check Apple’s transition FAQ for current instructions rather than trying to move or reapply for an account based on the announcement alone.

Will the change affect credit reports?
Apple says that once the transition occurs, credit reports will show Chase as the new issuing bank. The FAQ does not specify the precise handover date or provide further details about how account records will be handled, so those mechanics should not be assumed in advance.
Will Apple Card’s terms and features change?
Apple’s announcement describes Apple Card as offering up to 3% unlimited Daily Cash on every purchase, spending tools, Apple Card Family, and access to a Savings account. That is a description of the product in the announcement, not a guarantee that every feature or account term will remain unchanged indefinitely after the issuer transition. The reviewed transition materials do not specify future changes to terms or features.

What Goldman Sachs’s financial figures mean
Goldman Sachs said the transaction was expected to increase its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings by $0.46 per share. It attributed the expected impact to a release of $2.48 billion in loan-loss reserves, a $2.26 billion reduction in net revenues, and $38 million in expenses, as disclosed in its January 7, 2026 Form 8-K. These are company-level accounting effects; they do not describe a fee, payment, or loss for Apple Card holders.
