During that window, eligible customers could combine Apple Education Pricing with an Apple Gift Card worth $100 or $150 when buying selected Macs or iPads through Apple. Apple’s current terms, eligibility rules and product list should be checked before relying on a future promotion, because Apple changes the offer by year and country.
What was Apple’s 2026 Back to School offer?
Apple’s U.S. promotion combined two separate benefits:

- Year-round Education Pricing: reduced prices for eligible education customers.
- A limited-time promotion: an Apple Gift Card when buying a qualifying Mac or iPad.
The seasonal offer was not a universal cash discount. The promotional value was issued as an Apple Gift Card for future eligible Apple purchases. Apple’s terms describe the promotion product as part of the transaction, discounted by an equivalent amount.
When did the 2026 promotion end?
In the United States and Puerto Rico, the 2026 promotion ran from July 16 through August 27, 2026, while supplies lasted. Eligible orders placed during the promotional period could still qualify if they shipped after August 27.

The offer was available through the U.S. Apple Store for Education, physical Apple retail stores and Apple phone sales at 1-800-MY-APPLE. Purchases from unrelated retailers were not covered by Apple’s promotion terms.
Which products qualified?

The prices above are configuration-dependent starting prices, not representative prices for every model. The product amounts and qualifying configurations came from Apple’s 2026 promotion terms. Apple’s Mac and iPad pages may list other products with education pricing, but that does not make every listed product promotion-eligible.
For example, MacBook Neo, standard iPad, iPad mini, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio could appear in Apple’s Education Store without qualifying for the 2026 Back to School gift card. Refurbished, end-of-life and open-box “as is” products were excluded.
How much was the real saving?
The potential value was:
Education-price reduction + Apple Gift Card value
That does not mean the gift card reduced the original purchase price by $100 or $150 in cash. Its full value depends on whether you will later spend that amount with Apple.

The card could be useful for accessories such as an Apple Pencil, keyboard, case, USB-C hub or charger. Apple says Apple Gift Cards can also be used for eligible hardware, apps, subscriptions and services including Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, Apple One, Fitness+, iCloud+ and Books. A buyer who already expects to purchase Apple accessories or services may treat the card close to face value. Someone seeking an immediate price reduction, cash back or money that can be moved to a bank account should value it less than $100 or $150.

Who was eligible?
Apple’s U.S. education rules did not make every student automatically eligible. The published categories included:
- Students currently attending a U.S. college or university.
- Students accepted into a U.S. college or university.
- Faculty and staff of higher-education institutions.
- Parents buying on behalf of a child attending or accepted into a U.S. college or university.
- Employees of public or private K–12 institutions.
- Homeschool teachers.
- Currently serving elected or appointed school board members.
- Currently serving elected or appointed PTA or PTO executives.
A high-school student was not automatically eligible simply because they were enrolled in high school. Apple’s published individual-purchaser rules specifically distinguish K–12 employees and related roles from higher-education students.
Institutional, enterprise, business, government, public-entity, nonprofit, educational-institution and reseller purchases were excluded from the individual promotion. A school buying multiple computers for classrooms would need Apple’s institutional or education procurement route instead.
Was education verification required?
Apple’s U.S. Education Store help page says eligible customers may be verified through UNiDAYS, either online or in an Apple Store. Signing in with an Apple Account may preserve verification for a year. Apple can change the verification flow, so the screens and documents requested should be treated as current-process details rather than permanent rules.
A school email address may not be sufficient by itself. Accepted college students should be prepared to show acceptance or enrollment information, and parents buying for a college student should be prepared to satisfy Apple’s parent-and-student requirements. Apple’s current education-payment guidance is the appropriate place to confirm eligibility.
How would an eligible buyer claim the offer?
- Open Apple’s U.S. Education Store.
- Complete education verification if Apple requests it.
- Select a qualifying MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air or iPad Pro.
- Check the cart carefully to confirm the promotional Apple Gift Card appears.
- Review the final configuration, delivery details, financing terms and return conditions.
- Save the order confirmation and any information associated with the promotional card.
Do not assume that finding a product in the Education Store is enough. The qualifying product and the promotional card must match Apple’s current promotion terms.

Could Apple Card Monthly Installments be used?
Apple’s terms described Apple Card Monthly Installments as a potential 0% APR option for eligible U.S. purchases, subject to credit approval, credit limit, product eligibility and the program’s current terms. It had to be selected at checkout; using an Apple Card for a one-time payment was not automatically the same as choosing installments.
Apple’s terms stated that the 0% installment treatment applied to eligible purchases while variable APR could apply to taxes and shipping. Monthly examples displayed by Apple—such as starting-price installments for MacBook Air or iPad Air—could change with configuration, taxes and checkout selections. Apple Card is a U.S.-only product.
Trade-in, employee, business, institutional and other special programs should not be assumed to stack with the promotion. The final checkout terms control.
What happened if the product was returned?
This was one of the most important conditions. Apple’s terms required both the eligible product and the promotional product to be returned for a full refund.
If the Apple Gift Card was missing, not returned or already redeemed, Apple could deduct its full original value from the refund or exchange value of the Mac or iPad. If the eligible product was not returned, Apple could charge the current full price rather than preserve the special promotional pricing.
In practical terms, do not spend the promotional card until you are confident you will keep the qualifying product.

Could the gift card be used for AppleCare?
AppleCare was not listed as a product that generated the Back to School promotional gift card. It could be purchased separately. Apple’s education site advertised savings of up to 10% on coverage for a new Mac or iPad, but the actual price depended on the product, coverage type and region. The current checkout should be used to confirm whether the gift card can be applied to a particular AppleCare purchase.
MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?
The MacBook Pro offered the larger promotional card, but that alone did not make it the better financial choice.

- MacBook Pro: more defensible when sustained performance, additional memory, professional applications, video, audio, 3D, engineering or other demanding workloads justify the higher price.
Buying a Pro solely to obtain an additional $50 in Apple credit can leave a student spending substantially more than necessary.

Both received a $100 promotional card, so the decision depended more on the device than on the offer.
- iPad Air: a practical choice for note-taking, reading, drawing, portability and use as a companion device.
- iPad Pro: better suited to buyers who specifically need its higher-end display, performance or demanding creative workflow.
Remember to budget for accessories. A keyboard, Pencil, case and charging equipment can materially change the total cost, and the card may be most useful when directed toward those items.
Was Apple the best place to buy?
Apple was a strong option when you qualified for Education Pricing, wanted one of the four eligible product categories, needed a particular configuration, or expected to use the Apple Gift Card. Buying directly also provided Apple’s direct support, returns and warranty handling.

Another seller could be better when:
- You did not qualify for education pricing.
- A retailer offered a larger immediate discount, cashback offer or price match.
- You wanted cash savings rather than store credit.
- You were considering an older clearance model.
- You wanted a Windows PC, Chromebook or non-Apple tablet.
- You wanted a refurbished product, which was excluded from Apple’s promotion.
- A retailer offered return terms that better suited your situation.
Compare the final out-of-pocket price, not just the advertised gift-card amount. A $100 card is valuable only if you would otherwise spend money with Apple.
What were the purchase limits?
Apple’s year-round U.S. Education Pricing terms listed annual limits including one desktop, one Mac mini, one MacBook, one display, two iPads, one Apple Watch and two accessories per eligible purchaser. The Back to School promotion separately limited the promotional products to one promotional product for an eligible Mac purchase and one for an eligible iPad purchase per qualified purchaser.
These limits are different from one another and should not be read as permission for institutional or resale buying.
Does this offer apply outside the United States?
No single global answer applies. Apple sets separate dates, amounts and eligibility rules by country. The 2026 dates and product values discussed here applied to U.S. and Puerto Rico purchases. Canada, the United Kingdom, India and other markets may have different promotions. Always use the Apple education site for the country where the purchase and delivery will occur.

The 2026 U.S. Apple Back to School promotion is over. While it was active, the offer was most attractive to a verified education customer who already wanted a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air or iPad Pro and expected to use an Apple Gift Card later. It was not a universal student discount, not cash back and not available for every product shown in Apple’s Education Store.
For a future Apple promotion, verify eligibility first, confirm the card appears in the cart, compare Apple’s final education price with retailer offers, and avoid redeeming the card until you are sure you will keep the qualifying device.
