Apna announced a $70 million Series B on June 15, 2021, co-led by Insight Partners and Tiger Global. The company put its valuation at $570 million and said the round took its cumulative funding above $90 million. Its pitch was broader than a job board: Apna combined job discovery with occupational communities, peer networking, interview practice and skills learning for workers in India.
What Apna announced in June 2021
Apna said the Series B was co-led by Insight Partners and Tiger Global, with Sequoia Capital India, Lightspeed India, Greenoaks Capital and Rocketship VC also participating. The company reported a $570 million valuation and more than $90 million in total funding after the round. TechCrunch’s contemporaneous coverage and Insight Partners’ announcement described the financing and Apna’s plans.
Apna said it intended to use the proceeds to deepen its presence in India, develop products and skilling capabilities, hire, and explore expansion into Southeast Asia and the United States. Those were plans announced at the time; the available reporting does not establish which were completed.
Why the company combined jobs with networking and skills
Apna described its Android app as a place where workers could find local jobs and join communities organized around occupations. Members could connect with peers, share job leads and advice, practice interviews, showcase accomplishments and learn skills. The underlying idea was that job access depends not only on listings, but also on information, relationships and preparation—resources the company said were less available to many workers outside conventional professional networks.

Founder and CEO Nirmit Parikh told TechCrunch that people from more privileged backgrounds often benefit from better schools and influential connections, while others nearby may not see the same opportunities. That was Parikh’s explanation of the problem Apna aimed to address, not an independently measured finding about the app’s effect.
The company’s launch-era scale claims were substantial but should be read as Apna’s own figures, not audited results. At the time of the financing announcement, it reported more than 10 million users, over 100,000 employers, and a presence in 14 Indian cities. It also said that in the preceding month its platform had facilitated more than 15 million job interviews and work-related conversations. The figure combined two kinds of activity and does not, by itself, show how many users obtained jobs or improved their earnings.

How the funding story continued later in 2021
On September 16, 2021, Moneycontrol reported that Apna had raised a further $100 million from Tiger Global at a $1.1 billion valuation. Its report gave later-2021 figures of 16 million users, 150,000 recruiters and operations in 28 Indian cities. These are dated figures reported in 2021, not present-day platform totals.
| Announcement | Reported financing and valuation | Reported scale at the time |
|---|---|---|
| June 15, 2021 Series B | $70 million; $570 million valuation reported by Apna; more than $90 million raised cumulatively, according to Apna | More than 10 million users, over 100,000 employers, 14 Indian cities, and over 15 million interviews and work-related conversations in the preceding month, all reported by Apna |
| September 16, 2021 financing | $100 million from Tiger Global; $1.1 billion valuation, as reported by Moneycontrol | 16 million users, 150,000 recruiters and 28 Indian cities, as reported by Moneycontrol |
The two snapshots show how quickly the company’s reported scale and financing changed over a few months. They do not establish that the June round caused the later growth, nor do they verify hiring outcomes. Apna’s announcement and Insight Partners’ post largely repeated the same release, while TechCrunch and Moneycontrol provided contemporaneous and later reporting, respectively.

What the figures do—and do not—tell workers
For a worker, the financing announcement was evidence that investors were backing Apna’s approach to job discovery and professional networking. It was not a guarantee of a job, a measure of wages earned through the platform, or proof that interview practice and skills content led to better employment outcomes. Those outcomes are not established by the cited announcements and reporting.
Apna’s present-day totals should not be inferred from its 2021 figures. A careers-page search-result snapshot accessed in 2026 displayed larger totals, but the page could not be opened for direct verification. The dated 2021 claims therefore remain historical figures rather than a reliable statement of current scale.
