Anthropic’s February 25, 2026 launch moves Claude beyond a standalone chatbot: its “coworker” plug-ins and connectors can search, summarize, draft and, where explicitly permitted, act across the business systems used by finance, HR, engineering, legal and office teams. The opportunity is a governed work layer across existing software—not a replacement for ERP, CRM or HR systems.
What Anthropic announced on February 25, 2026
Anthropic presented departmental “coworkers” for investment banking and financial analysis, human resources, engineering and design, legal and document-heavy work, and collaboration. Reported integrations included Google Workspace, DocuSign, FactSet, MSCI and LegalZoom, alongside partner-built plug-ins from Slack, LSEG and S&P Global. Computerworld’s launch coverage described uses such as deal review, HR-material drafting and engineering support.
This was an expansion and packaging shift, not Claude’s first connection to business software. Anthropic had announced remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations in May 2025, giving developers a way to connect Claude to web and desktop applications. Anthropic’s integrations announcement describes Claude using connected project histories, task status and organizational knowledge.
What a Claude plug-in actually is
“Plug-in” is broad product shorthand. Depending on the product surface, Anthropic may call the connection a connector, MCP app, Cowork plug-in, Claude Code plug-in or managed agent.

- Connector: gives Claude access to an application or data source, commonly for search and retrieval.
- MCP connection: exposes tools and data through Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol.
- Write-capable tool: can create a draft, organize information, update a record or initiate another permitted action.
- Cowork plug-in: a user-facing departmental workflow in Claude’s desktop experience.
- Managed agent: a more programmatic deployment model for controlled, repeatable workflows.
These categories matter because an integration that only searches documents has a very different risk profile from one that can edit records or trigger an external action. Availability, write permissions, approval prompts and pricing vary by plan, geography, partner and product surface.
Which business systems are in scope?
Collaboration and productivity
Google Workspace connections can search Gmail, Calendar and Drive, work with documents, manage calendar-related tasks and save files. Claude can create Gmail drafts, but the Google Workspace connector does not send Gmail messages on a user’s behalf, according to Anthropic’s documentation. Microsoft 365 add-ins extend context across Excel, PowerPoint and Word; Outlook was described as coming soon in Anthropic’s cited announcement. Slack and shared organizational documents are other collaboration surfaces.
Finance and investment research
Anthropic’s financial-services offering names FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, MSCI, PitchBook, Morningstar, LSEG, Daloopa and other partner or internal data sources. Its May 5, 2026 announcement includes ten ready-to-run agent templates for work such as pitchbook creation, KYC-file screening and month-end close. The same announcement describes Cowork and Claude Code plug-ins, with Managed Agents in public beta for that program.
Legal and professional services
DocuSign, LegalZoom, contract repositories and diligence libraries fit document-heavy workflows. Claude can help locate clauses, compare documents or prepare drafts, but a connector should not be treated as legal advice or as authority to execute a binding agreement without review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSmall-business systems
A later May 13, 2026 announcement lists connectors for Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Anthropic positions these as toggle-based installations with workflows such as payroll planning, invoice follow-up and marketing-project initiation. Exact actions and availability still depend on the connected service and account permissions.
What can the plug-ins do?
| Capability | What is established | Control question |
|---|---|---|
| Retrieve context | Search connected email, calendars, documents, research databases and repositories. | Which users, folders, records or data fields are visible? |
| Draft outputs | Create email drafts, reports, pitchbooks, presentations and document analyses. | Who checks sources, recipients and confidential content? |
| Analyze data | Support financial research, diligence, KYC pre-screening and month-end-close work. | Are licensed data and calculations current and independently verified? |
| Take actions | Some tools can create, organize or update information when their scopes allow it. | Is the action reversible, logged and explicitly approved? |
Representative workflows include summarizing a deal room, comparing portfolio companies, finding action items across meetings and email, or turning spreadsheet analysis into a presentation. Those are workflow patterns, not a promise that every connector supports every action.
Why this is strategically important
Claude becomes a work surface
Instead of asking employees to copy information into a separate chat window, Anthropic wants Claude present where work already happens. More frequent use can follow when the assistant can retrieve the relevant history, files and tasks directly.
Context matters as much as model quality
An answer based on current, authorized company data is more useful than a generic answer, but it also raises the stakes of identity, data quality and access design.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Cross-system orchestration is the differentiator
The strongest case is a workflow that spans systems—for example, finding a meeting decision in email, checking an approved financial source, and producing a presentation. If one platform already handles the task natively, Claude must offer a measurable cross-system advantage.

“Core systems” needs careful wording
The launch reaches important work around finance, HR, legal and collaboration, but the cited evidence does not establish universal write access to SAP, Workday, Salesforce or every company’s system of record. A defensible description is that Anthropic is pursuing an intelligence and action layer across the systems employees use to perform core work.
Governance requirements before deployment
Use least privilege
Start with read-only scopes where possible. Separate read, draft and write permissions, limit access by user, group, role or department, and require re-approval when a workflow expands its data sources.
Control identities and lifecycle
Use per-user authentication, organization-level enablement and rapid revocation when someone changes role or leaves. Assign an owner for each connector, including its permissions, vendor updates and incident process.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Make consequential actions reviewable
Require human approval for external messages, payments, payroll changes, legal commitments, financial submissions and irreversible record updates. Cowork administrators can control whether users may select “Always allow” for connector tools that write data. Persistent approval reduces friction but increases the potential blast radius of a mistaken or manipulated instruction; see Anthropic’s Cowork administration guidance.
Log the complete chain
Retain records of the user, data accessed, tools invoked, changes made, approvals, model or workflow version and reversal options. Test whether logs are exportable to the organization’s existing monitoring and compliance systems.
Protect boundaries and retention
Anthropic’s Google Workspace documentation says connector data is not used to train its models, while also stating that retrieved data is stored on Anthropic’s servers and protected by Anthropic’s security infrastructure. “Not used for training” is therefore not the same as “never leaves the organization.” Review retention, encryption, regional processing and contractual terms for each product.
Test hostile input
Emails, documents, tickets and web pages can contain prompt-injection instructions. Treat their text as untrusted content, not policy. Test whether an agent will reveal restricted data, follow an embedded instruction or bypass an approval step.

Risks that buyers should price in
- Over-broad internal access: one agent searching finance, HR and collaboration data may combine information employees were never meant to see together.
- Incorrect or stale output: financial, legal, HR and engineering work requires source validation and accountable review.
- Rubber-stamp approvals: a nominal human gate is weak if reviewers approve large batches without checking recipients, sources or changes.
- Audit gaps: incomplete records make it difficult to investigate an incident or challenge an outcome.
- Unpredictable spend: current Enterprise documentation describes a seat fee plus usage charges at standard API rates, with no included token allowance under the cited model; administrators can set organization and individual spend limits. See Anthropic’s Enterprise plan documentation. No universal public seat price is established there.
- Duplicate functionality: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce and specialist finance platforms may already provide narrower, cheaper or more tightly governed AI features.
Which pilots make sense first?
Choose a task that is frequent, easy to verify, reversible, supported by clean data and owned by a named business reviewer.
| Pilot | Why it is suitable | Required guardrail |
|---|---|---|
| Internal research and document retrieval | High volume and comparatively easy to check against source files. | Source links, access filtering and stale-data checks. |
| Meeting notes and action-item synthesis | Reversible and useful across collaboration tools. | Human correction before distribution. |
| Routine communication drafts | Reduces preparation time without granting send authority. | Draft-only scope and recipient review. |
| Financial research or KYC pre-screening | Can reduce manual search and sorting. | Analyst or compliance disposition; no automatic decision. |
| Reports and presentations from approved data | Shows the value of cross-application context. | Locked source set, calculation checks and approval. |
Do not begin with automatic payments, payroll changes, final hiring or termination decisions, unsupervised legal advice, irreversible ERP or CRM updates, external communications without approval, or autonomous trading, credit or underwriting decisions.

How to measure whether it is worth keeping
- Cycle time and manual steps removed.
- Search time and rework per completed task.
- Output acceptance rate after review.
- Escalations, rejected actions and data-access violations.
- Cost per completed workflow, including connector administration and review.
- Adoption by role and the business value compared with native application AI.
Raw prompt volume is not a success metric. Compare the pilot with the existing process and with the AI already included in the organization’s productivity, CRM, finance or legal software.
Claude versus native and custom alternatives
| Option | Usually strongest when | Question to answer |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Cowork or Enterprise | Work crosses several systems and benefits from flexible reasoning. | Do connectors, approvals, logs and usage costs justify another platform? |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | The organization is standardized on Microsoft 365 and wants suite-native identity and permissions. | Does cross-system breadth beyond Microsoft materially improve outcomes? |
| Google Workspace Gemini | Gmail, Drive, Docs and Calendar are the center of work. | Would a separate Claude layer duplicate existing context? |
| Salesforce Agentforce or specialist finance/legal tools | The workflow is principally CRM-native or requires licensed domain data and controls. | Is broad reasoning more valuable than system-of-record integration? |
| Custom API, MCP or Managed Agent build | The company needs bespoke permissions, workflow logic and observability. | Does it have the engineering and security capacity to operate it? |
Practical buying checklist
- Identify the exact connector and supported actions; do not infer write capability from the word “integrated.”
- Map every data source, identity group and information barrier the workflow touches.
- Start read-only, then add draft and write scopes only when the review process is proven.
- Define approval, logging, retention, encryption and revocation requirements with security and compliance teams.
- Estimate seat, metered-usage, integration, monitoring and human-review costs.
- Run a time-boxed pilot with baseline cycle-time and error measurements.
- Compare the result with native AI and a narrowly scoped automation before expanding.
FAQ
Can Claude send Gmail messages through the Google Workspace connector?
No. Anthropic’s current Google Workspace documentation supports creating Gmail drafts but says Claude cannot send Gmail messages on the user’s behalf through that connector: Google Workspace connector documentation.
Does an Enterprise plan have one predictable all-in price?
Not according to the cited Enterprise documentation. It describes a seat fee plus separate usage charges at standard API rates and says administrators can set spend limits. Anthropic does not provide a universal public seat price in that material.
Are all Claude plug-ins autonomous agents?
No. Some only retrieve information; others draft outputs or expose narrowly scoped actions. The connector’s permissions, product surface and approval settings determine what it can actually do.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Claude send Gmail messages through the Google Workspace connector?
No. The connector can create Gmail drafts, but Anthropic says it cannot send Gmail messages on the user’s behalf.
Does an Enterprise plan have one predictable all-in price?
No. The cited documentation describes a seat fee plus metered usage at standard API rates; no universal public seat price is stated.
Are all Claude plug-ins autonomous agents?

The Bottom Line
Anthropic’s plug-ins are most compelling when work is fragmented across several systems and a human can verify the result. Pilot read-heavy, reversible workflows first; require least privilege, explicit approvals and complete logs before allowing Claude to write to business systems. The business case must beat both integration risk and the AI features already included in software the company owns.
