Ani.VC announced a plan to invest $35 million over three years in pet- and animal-health businesses, and named Los Angeles-based canine social club DOG PPL its inaugural investment. The announcement was made July 17, 2024; the fund’s stated deployment was a launch plan, not a verified amount invested.
What Ani.VC announced
In a July 17, 2024 announcement carried by VentureBeat, Ani.VC said it planned to deploy $35 million over three years across the United States, Europe and Asia. The announcement identified DOG PPL as the fund’s first investment. That figure describes the plan at launch; it does not establish how much Ani.VC has since invested or whether the full plan was completed.
Garri Zmudze, Ani.VC co-founder, framed the thesis around extending services and care available to people to their pets: “Our pets are part of the family. Since humans already have access to modern telemedicine and testing, wellbeing-oriented social clubs, and longevity-focused care, among other advancements, their animal family members should too.”
What Ani.VC invests in
The launch announcement described a broad pet and animal-health focus, including health, therapeutics, veterinary services, nutrition and consumables, digital services, e-commerce and longevity. Ani VC’s current website groups its thesis into pet health, consumer and technology, and lists areas such as consumables, veterinary services, longevity, pet technology, animal health, e-commerce and consumer services.

These categories describe the fund’s stated investment scope, not a guarantee that every category has received an investment. Its current website provides Ani VC’s own portfolio descriptions; those descriptions are not independent evidence of a product’s effectiveness.
Why DOG PPL was the first investment
DOG PPL is a membership-based dog-park network, according to Ani VC’s current site. The 2024 announcement described it as a canine social club combining a dog park with a social-club experience, then operating in Los Angeles. It said dogs were screened for vaccination status and temperament. The founders, Liam Underwood and Alexander Esguerra, said the business focused on enrichment and community for dogs and their owners, and called Ani.VC a fitting partner for that mission.

This makes DOG PPL an example of the thesis’s consumer-services side: a social and recreational service for pets and their owners, rather than a veterinary, therapeutic or pet-food company. The launch release also said a New York opening was planned. That was a plan stated in 2024, not confirmation that a New York location opened or that DOG PPL operates there today.
How to read the pet-market figures in the announcement
The launch release characterized the pet and animal-health market as worth more than $540 billion and cited a forecast that U.S. pet spending would reach $195.6 billion by 2030. Both numbers appeared in Ani.VC’s July 17, 2024 launch announcement; they should be read as claims made in that release, not as current measured totals.

- The release excerpt does not provide methodology for the more-than-$540-billion market characterization.
- It does not name the underlying source for the $195.6-billion U.S. spending forecast or explain how the forecast was calculated.
These limitations matter because the figures are not directly interchangeable: one is a broad market characterization and the other is a future U.S. spending forecast. Neither, on the available information, verifies Ani.VC’s investment performance or the size of the opportunity it can capture.

The announcement establishes Ani.VC’s stated investment ambition and its choice of DOG PPL as its first investment at launch. The available launch and current company materials do not establish the amount actually deployed since then, the present status of DOG PPL’s individual locations, or an independently verified current market valuation. Treat the $35 million as an announced three-year plan, and the market figures as attributed 2024 estimates rather than current facts.
