That was an announced offer—not confirmation that Carini received the money. ANSA reported two days later that Carini and the Italian boxing federation would refuse it; the sources available here do not confirm whether a payment was ever transferred.
What was the $50,000 for?
The IBA said it would give Carini the same athlete-level prize as a Paris 2024 Olympic boxing gold medalist, describing the award as money “as if she were an Olympic champion.” Carini had withdrawn from her round-of-16 bout against Algeria’s Imane Khelif after 46 seconds of the first round, according to the IBA’s August 2 announcement.
The IBA presented this as its own prize-money decision. It should not be confused with a payment from the Olympic organizers or with the outcome of the Olympic competition.
How the IBA said its gold-medal award was divided
The $50,000 announced for Carini was the athlete’s share, not the full allocation. The IBA said its total gold-medal allocation was $100,000, distributed as follows:

Why did the IBA make the offer?
IBA President Umar Kremlev explained the decision by saying, “I couldn’t look at her tears,” and added, “I am not indifferent to such situations, and I can assure that we will protect each boxer.” Those remarks and the proposed award were part of the IBA’s public response to Carini’s withdrawal.
Carini later said she had felt pain after punches and no longer felt able to continue, describing her decision to stop as instinctive. Le Monde also reported that she apologized for not greeting Khelif and said she respected the IOC decision allowing Khelif to compete. Those comments offer context for Carini’s account of the bout; they do not change the status of the IBA’s proposal or establish that it was paid.
