Amir Satvat received the inaugural TGA Game Changer award at The Game Awards 2024 for work supporting game developers affected by layoffs and helping them find jobs. The award put that employment support in the spotlight; “finally acknowledges” is commentary on the show’s recognition of layoffs, not the award’s official name or an admission by its organizers.
What Amir Satvat won at The Game Awards 2024
The Game Awards presented Satvat with its first TGA Game Changer award at the 2024 ceremony. The official award video records the presentation.
The distinction recognized support for game developers affected by layoffs. Coverage of the segment describes Satvat’s work as helping laid-off developers find employment. His Game Developers Conference profile identifies him as founder of Always Supporting Games Community and as a business development director at Tencent Games.
What the award segment said about job placements
PC Gamer reported that the award segment described Satvat’s project as having helped place nearly 3,000 people in jobs. That is a figure attributed to the segment, not an independently verified total: the cited report does not specify the counting method, timeframe, or a precise date for the count. It should therefore be read as a reported description of the project’s reach, not as an audited outcome. PC Gamer’s report on Satvat’s comments gives the figure.

Why the moment drew attention to layoffs
PC Gamer framed the 2024 award segment as The Game Awards addressing game-industry layoffs, against earlier criticism that the show had not sufficiently engaged with the issue. The headline’s “finally” expresses that editorial view. It is not official wording from The Game Awards, and the award itself was named the TGA Game Changer award—not a layoffs award or a formal acknowledgment by organizers that they had previously ignored the issue.
The practical focus of the recognition was support for people whose jobs were affected: connecting developers with employment opportunities and community help. Satvat said in his acceptance speech, as reported by PC Gamer: “To all game makers everywhere, you are seen and treasured, and our community will always be there to help you.” PC Gamer’s coverage of the award and speech reports the quotation.
