American Airlines announced five domestic routes from Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Los Angeles (LAX), with planned start dates in April, May and December 2026. Four are listed as year-round; the Chicago–Kahului route is scheduled seasonally through March 27, 2027. The airline’s announcement does not establish that any of the five city pairs had gone more than five years without service.
Which new American Airlines routes are coming from Chicago and Los Angeles?
American’s announcement lists two new routes from each hub plus a seasonal Hawaii route from Chicago. The dates, aircraft and frequencies below are planned schedule details published by the airline and may change.

American described the routes in its Chicago and Los Angeles route announcement. The timetable makes an important distinction: these are five additions announced together, but they are not all summer-season services. Four are listed year-round, while ORD–OGG has a defined winter operating period.
When do the flights start, and how long do they operate?
Los Angeles routes: April 7, 2026
American’s planned start date for LAX–CLE and LAX–IAD is April 7, 2026. Both are listed as daily, year-round Boeing 737 service.

Chicago regional routes: May 21, 2026
ORD–ABE and ORD–CAE are scheduled to start May 21, 2026. Each is listed as two daily flights on an Embraer 170, with year-round operation.
Chicago–Kahului: December 17, 2026, through March 27, 2027
ORD–OGG is the seasonal route in the announcement. American lists daily Boeing 787-8 service from December 17, 2026, through March 27, 2027; the published period does not establish service outside those dates.
Does this mean the five city pairs had not been served for more than five years?
That history is not established by American’s announcement. It calls the routes new but does not give the last dates on which American operated any of the five city pairs. A separate secondary summary of American’s 2026 domestic additions discusses resumptions among a different group of routes, so it does not verify the history of ORD–ABE, ORD–CAE, ORD–OGG, LAX–CLE or LAX–IAD. The claim that all five were absent for more than five years should therefore not be treated as confirmed based on these sources.

The airline’s release said tickets were available from January 26 through aa.com and its mobile app. That was an announcement-time availability notice, not confirmation of current inventory or fares. For a trip, check American’s booking channels for the operating dates, flight times, seats and price that apply to your itinerary. Planned aircraft and frequencies can also change, so verify the schedule before relying on a particular departure pattern.
American’s executive Brian Znotins, senior vice president of Network and Schedule Planning, said the routes add to the airline’s connectivity from Chicago and Los Angeles. The company also described its Chicago network as reaching more than 180 destinations and its overall network as more than 6,000 daily flights to more than 350 destinations in over 60 countries. Those are American-published network figures, not independent measures of demand or evidence that any individual route will be profitable or continue unchanged.
