AMD has completed its acquisition of Helsinki-based Silo AI. The company announced the agreement on July 10, 2024, and said it had completed the deal on August 12; AMD’s 2025 Form 10-K, filed February 4, 2026, lists the closing date as August 9, 2024. AMD reported an all-cash price of $665 million.
What AMD acquired
AMD described Silo AI as a Helsinki-based artificial intelligence company with operations in Europe and North America. Its work included building tailored models, platforms and AI solutions for customers’ cloud, embedded and endpoint products, services and operations. That combination of model development and customer implementation experience was central to AMD’s stated interest in the company.

AMD identified Silo AI’s open-source multilingual models Poro and Viking, as well as its SiloGen model platform. The acquisition therefore added more than a collection of models: AMD said it was bringing in an experienced AI workforce and capabilities for developing and deploying AI systems for businesses. These descriptions are AMD’s characterization of Silo AI and the deal.
Customers and relationships AMD named
In its acquisition announcement, AMD listed Allianz, Philips, Rolls-Royce and Unilever among Silo AI’s customers. The announcement also quoted Nokia Chief Strategy and Technology Officer Nishant Batra describing Silo AI as a long-term partner on AI-related projects. AMD did not disclose contract values, exclusivity, or how much work Silo AI performed for any of these organizations.

Why AMD said it bought Silo AI
AMD’s stated goal was to strengthen its ability to develop and deploy AI solutions on AMD hardware, while expanding its enterprise AI offerings. The company positioned Silo AI as a source of specialist talent, software and model-building experience, including experience developing models on AMD platforms. This is AMD’s rationale for the purchase, not evidence that the transaction alone increased its market share or revenue.
In a September 2024 interview with TIME, AMD chair and CEO Lisa Su described the broader approach as combining hardware, software and, in some cases, implementation services. She said acquisitions bring talent and intellectual property alongside hiring and partnerships. The Silo AI deal fits that strategy: acquire an established team and capabilities rather than relying only on internal development or outside partners.

Acquisition versus hiring or partnership
Acquiring a specialist can bring a team and its accumulated know-how into the company in one transaction. Organic hiring can add people over time, while partnerships can provide access to expertise without an acquisition. AMD’s public explanations support these as routes in its broader AI strategy, but they do not provide a like-for-like comparison of their cost, speed or results. The $665 million price alone cannot show whether buying Silo AI was more efficient than those alternatives.

AMD reported a $665 million all-cash acquisition price. Its later 2025 Form 10-K records $553 million as purchase consideration after closing adjustments, transaction costs and deferred cash compensation. The same filing allocated $577 million to goodwill, which AMD attributed to Silo AI’s workforce and the expected acceleration of AI solutions on AMD hardware. Those figures describe different parts of the transaction’s accounting; $553 million is not a revised headline price, and goodwill is not an additional cash payment.

AMD’s SEC filings say Silo AI’s financial results since the acquisition were not material and were included primarily in AMD’s Data Center segment. The filing does not provide a standalone Silo AI revenue figure, so it is not possible from that disclosure to quantify the acquired business’s separate contribution.

The acquisition shows AMD investing in the people, models and enterprise implementation capabilities it said it needed to build out AI solutions on its hardware. It does not establish that AMD caught or surpassed a competitor, or that the acquisition measurably changed AMD’s competitive position. AMD’s announcements explain its strategic intent; the available financial disclosure does not isolate Silo AI’s effect on AMD’s performance.

For investors and readers following AMD, the distinction is important: a stated strategic fit is not the same as a demonstrated financial return. The company’s disclosure that Silo AI’s post-acquisition results were not material, and its lack of a standalone revenue figure, leave the deal’s specific contribution difficult to assess from reported financial results.
