AppleInsider reported up to $300 off selected M4 MacBook Air configurations, including a 13-inch model with 24GB of memory and 512GB storage for $1,099. Check the exact Amazon listing, seller, condition and checkout price before treating any discount as current.
Which M4 MacBook Air models were discounted?
The strongest coverage came from March 4–12, 2026, shortly after Apple announced the M5 MacBook Air. AppleInsider’s March 5 report listed these U.S. prices:

What the “$300 off” label means
The reported discount was measured against the M4’s original pricing or recent selling price, not necessarily against an equivalent M5. Apple launched the M4 Air in March 2025 at $999 for 13 inches and $1,199 for 15 inches, according to its launch announcement.

That comparison changed when Apple introduced the M5 on March 3, 2026. The M5 starts at $1,099 for 13 inches and $1,299 for 15 inches, and its base configuration includes 512GB rather than the M4’s 256GB. Therefore, “$300 below original M4 MSRP,” “$300 cheaper than the current M5 equivalent,” and “$300 below Amazon’s recent price” are different claims.
Why Amazon appeared to be clearing out M4 stock
The timing supports a clearance explanation: Apple launched the M5 immediately before the reported price cuts. However, Amazon has not publicly established the quantity of remaining inventory in the cited coverage. It is more accurate to say Amazon appeared to be discounting remaining M4 models than to claim a verified inventory blowout.

Apple says the M5 can deliver up to 1.5 times faster 3D rendering and up to four times faster performance on specified AI tasks than M4. Those are Apple’s comparisons, not independent test results; see Apple’s M5 announcement and technical specifications.
For web apps, Office, school software, streaming and ordinary coding, the M4’s performance remains ample. The M5’s advantages matter more when the price gap is small, 512GB is important, or you expect to use demanding graphics, AI or 3D workloads for years.

Which configuration offers the best value?
Best large-screen value: 15-inch, 16GB/512GB
At the reported $1,099, this model paired a 15.3-inch display with enough storage for most work and entertainment. It suits spreadsheets, split-screen research and photo management without moving to a MacBook Pro.
Best portable multitasking value: 13-inch, 24GB/512GB
The reported $1,099 13-inch configuration traded screen area for 24GB of memory. That can be the better choice for developers, heavy browser multitaskers and buyers planning to keep the laptop for many years.

Lowest entry price: 16GB/256GB
The 256GB models were the cheapest, but storage is the compromise. Large photo libraries, video projects, games, virtual machines and local AI models can fill that drive quickly. An August 2025 report found a 13-inch M4 at $799, but that older sale does not establish an August 2026 price; see MacRumors’ report.

Choose a verified M4 discount when:
- The savings are genuinely $200–$300 after any coupon or checkout condition.
- Your work is mainly web, office, school, coding or light creative software.
- You can live with 256GB, or the discounted model has 512GB.
- You value 24GB of memory more than the newest chip and wireless standards.
Choose M5 when:
- The price difference is small.
- You want 512GB as the starting storage tier.
- You plan to keep the Mac for many years and want the newest architecture.
- Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, hardware ray tracing or newer AI capabilities are priorities.
Verify the Amazon listing before ordering
- Confirm that the selected variation is M4, not M5 or an older generation.
- Check the screen size, memory and SSD capacity separately; titles and default variations can differ.
- Confirm the color and, where applicable, GPU configuration.
- Read whether it says “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com,” an authorized reseller, or another marketplace seller.
- Make sure the condition is new, not renewed, used or open-box.
- Check whether a coupon, Prime membership or checkout promotion is required.
- Review the return window and save a screenshot of the configuration and price.
- After delivery, verify the serial number, configuration, condition and Apple warranty coverage. Start a return promptly if the wrong model arrives.

The March clearance made the 15-inch 16GB/512GB M4 at about $1,099 and the 13-inch 24GB/512GB M4 at about $1,099 the standout values. But those prices were reported in March, not verified as live on August 18, 2026. Buy an M4 only after confirming the exact configuration and seller and establishing that the savings over the M5 are still meaningful. If the gap has narrowed, M5’s 512GB base storage and newer connectivity make it the safer long-term purchase.
