Historical deal: MacRumors reported these Amazon prices on November 14, 2024. They are not confirmed offers for 2026.
The headline’s full $129 reduction applied only to the 64GB Wi‑Fi iPad (9th generation), which was listed at $199.99 instead of $329. The 10th-generation iPad started at $299 for 64GB Wi‑Fi, a $50 reduction from its reported $349 price.
What the November 14, 2024 Amazon promotion included
MacRumors described the following early Black Friday prices on November 14, 2024. The “up to $129 off” wording referred to one specific 9th-generation configuration; the 10th-generation models were discounted by $50 each.
| Model | Configuration | Deal price | Reported regular price | Advertised saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPad 9th generation | 64GB, Wi‑Fi, Silver | $199.99 | $329.00 | $129 |
| iPad 10th generation | 64GB, Wi‑Fi | $299.00 | $349.00 | $50 |
| iPad 10th generation | 256GB, Wi‑Fi | $449.00 | $499.00 | $50 |
| iPad 10th generation | 64GB, cellular | $449.00 | Not specified in the report | $50 |
| iPad 10th generation | 256GB, cellular | $599.00 | Not specified in the report | $50 |
MacRumors’ November 14 report said the 9th-generation price matched that configuration’s record low. It characterized the 10th-generation Wi‑Fi prices, and the cellular prices available that week, as all-time lows at publication. Those are source-attributed, date-specific claims rather than a complete independent price-history analysis.

Which iPad was the better value?
Choose the 9th generation for the lowest upfront cost
At $199.99, the 64GB Wi‑Fi 9th-generation iPad was the bargain choice for basic use: browsing, streaming, reading, video calls, children’s homework and a secondary household tablet. Its older chassis has a physical Home button and a Lightning port, and the base model offers only 64GB. Those compromises matter more if you expect to keep the tablet for many years or store games, photos and downloaded video locally.
Pay more for the 10th generation when design and connectivity matter
The 10th generation uses a redesigned flat-edge body, moves Touch ID to the top button, replaces Lightning with USB‑C and puts the front camera on the landscape edge for video calls. Its larger 10.86-inch-class display design is a more modern fit for typing and meetings. At $299 for 64GB Wi‑Fi, it made more sense for buyers prioritizing those changes and a longer practical ownership horizon.

Storage and connectivity decisions
64GB or 256GB?
64GB can work for web use, streaming, email and modest app libraries. It becomes restrictive for a shared family tablet, large games, offline video, extensive photos or creative apps. The 256GB version is the safer choice for students, families and long-term owners, although the 10th-generation Wi‑Fi deal was $449 rather than $299.

Wi‑Fi or cellular?
Wi‑Fi is generally the better value for home, school and office use. Cellular is useful for travel, commuting or field work when tethering to a phone is inconvenient. Include the recurring cost of a data plan when comparing cellular models; the $50 tablet reduction does not cover that ongoing expense.
Could waiting have produced a better price?
Yes. These were advertised before Black Friday itself. MacRumors’ November 2024 archive records a 10th-generation iPad deal at $249.99 on November 28, 2024, below the $299 price reported on November 14. That later drop shows why an early “record low” is not necessarily the lowest price of the entire shopping season.

- If the 9th-generation 64GB Wi‑Fi model was genuinely available at $199.99 and you needed a basic tablet immediately, it was a strong historical price.
- If you were considering the 10th generation at $299 before Black Friday, waiting was a reasonable strategy because the price was later beaten.
- Amazon stock, color, seller, fulfillment, shipping and return terms can change quickly, so a displayed reference price should not be treated as a guarantee.
Buying checklist for any similar listing
- Confirm the generation and exact storage capacity.
- Check whether the listing is Wi‑Fi or cellular.
- Verify that the condition is new, not refurbished, renewed or open-box.
- Review the seller, fulfillment method, delivery date and return policy.
- Check the final checkout price, since color-specific stock and marketplace pricing can differ.
- Budget separately for a case, screen protector, keyboard, Pencil-compatible accessory or cellular data plan. None was included in the reported iPad discounts.
USB‑C accessories are the natural match for the 10th generation; older Lightning accessories may need adapters. Apple’s direct store and refurbished listings, as well as Best Buy’s new and open-box inventory, can offer different warranty, pickup and return trade-offs than marketplace stock: Apple iPad, Apple refurbished, Best Buy iPad listings and Amazon iPad search.

The $199.99 9th-generation iPad was the standout discount and the logical pick for buyers who valued the lowest possible price over newer hardware. The 10th-generation models justified their premium with USB‑C, the redesigned body and landscape camera, particularly for longer ownership or heavier daily use. However, the 10th-generation 64GB model later reached $249.99 on November 28, 2024. Treat the headline as a record of an early Black Friday 2024 promotion—not as a live 2026 offer—and verify any current listing before purchasing.
