The headline refers to a Teamsters-announced Amazon strike that began on December 19, 2024—not a strike confirmed to be underway today. The union named seven initial picket locations and said nearly 10,000 workers had mobilized, but that figure was not a verified count of workers who actually stopped working. The sources available here do not establish whether Amazon workers are on strike on October 8, 2026.
What happened in the Amazon strike?
On December 19, 2024, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced that a strike would begin at 6 a.m. Eastern. The union described the action as a nationwide strike and said workers at other facilities were prepared to join. Its announcement identified seven initial picket locations. The Teamsters’ December 19, 2024 announcement is the source for the event details below.
How many Amazon workers were on strike?
The Teamsters said nearly 10,000 Amazon workers had mobilized and joined its movement. That is the union’s claim about its organizing reach; it is not a verified number of people who walked off their jobs. The announcement separately named seven facilities where picket lines would initially be set up. Those figures describe different things and should not be conflated.
Where were the initial picket lines?
The union listed seven facilities in four states:
- New York: DBK4 in New York City.
- Georgia: DGT8 in Atlanta.
- California: DFX4, DAX5, and DAX8 in Southern California; and DCK6 in San Francisco.
- Illinois: DIL7 in Skokie.
This is the list in the Teamsters’ initial announcement, not confirmation of every location where workers may have taken action later.

What were the workers demanding?
The union said workers were seeking higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. It also said the strike responded to Amazon’s refusal to recognize and bargain with workers organized with the Teamsters. These are the union’s stated demands and allegations, rather than independently established findings in the cited announcement.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said in the announcement: “If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it.” This was an advocacy statement by the union’s leader. The cited sources do not provide a contemporaneous Amazon response to the December 2024 announcement.
What changed after the 2024 strike announcement?
In a March 31, 2026 statement, the Teamsters said Amazon agreed to restore unpaid time deducted from affected workers and not to deduct that time when workers strike. The union also said an NLRB ruling had found earlier deductions illegal. The Teamsters’ March 31, 2026 account describes the settlement as applying to Amazon’s 1,300 facilities nationwide. That scope and the account of the ruling are the union’s description; the underlying NLRB order or settlement notice is not cited here to independently establish the legal finding or its precise reach.

The cited information does not confirm a current strike as of October 8, 2026. A 2026 statement about a settlement over strike-related time deductions does not establish that workers are currently on strike. A present-tense claim would require a dated announcement or reliable current reporting, as well as Amazon’s response.
