Amazon workers at two New York City facilities authorized strikes in December 2024, and the Teamsters later said workers at both sites joined strike action. The facilities were JFK8, Amazon’s Staten Island fulfillment center, and DBK4, a Queens delivery station. This is a historical account, not confirmation of a new strike in October 2026.
Which Amazon facilities were involved?
- JFK8: Amazon’s fulfillment center on Staten Island. Workers there voted to unionize in 2022 under the Amazon Labor Union. The union affiliated with the Teamsters in 2024 and became ALU-IBT Local 1.
- DBK4: A delivery station in Queens. The Teamsters described it as Amazon’s largest delivery station in New York City.

Authorization was followed by strike action
On December 13, 2024, the Teamsters announced that workers at JFK8 and DBK4 had voted to authorize strikes. The union set December 15 as its deadline for Amazon to begin bargaining. Engadget reported on December 17 that the deadline passed without Amazon coming to the bargaining table.
A strike authorization vote is not itself a walkout. In a later update, the Teamsters said DBK4 workers and workers at other facilities had begun striking, and announced that JFK8 workers would join at midnight. That union chronology supports saying that strike action took place at both New York City sites as part of the wider December 2024 action; it does not establish that either facility remains on strike now. Why workers said they were striking
The Teamsters framed the dispute around Amazon’s recognition of the union and negotiations for a first contract, including workers’ demands for better wages, benefits, and safer working conditions. The union characterized Amazon’s refusal to bargain as illegal; that is the union’s position, not a neutral statement of a final legal finding.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said, “Amazon is pushing its workers closer to the picket line by failing to show them the respect they have earned.” Connor Spence, president of ALU-IBT Local 1, said, “Our members are ready to do whatever it takes to get a contract.” Both statements appeared in the Teamsters’ December 13 announcement.

Amazon disputed the union’s claims
Amazon disputed that the Teamsters represented the number of workers the union claimed. Engadget, citing ABC News, quoted Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards as saying the Teamsters did not represent “thousands of Amazon employees and drivers,” and alleging that the union had intentionally misled the public. Amazon also alleged threats and coercion and said related unfair labor practice charges were pending.
The Associated Press reported Amazon’s statement that strikers were “almost entirely outsiders” and that the company did not expect the action to affect operations. Those are Amazon’s claims; the union announced worker participation and described a broader campaign. The Teamsters’ March 2026 retrospective said workers picketed more than 200 Amazon facilities in over 20 states during the December 2024 action, a union-reported figure rather than an independently established count in the sources cited here.

What is known about the case now?
The December action is historical, but proceedings related to JFK8 continued after 2024. The National Labor Relations Board’s JFK8 case page records an appeal acknowledgment dated June 11, 2026. In April 2026, the Teamsters said the NLRB had issued a bargaining order concerning ALU-IBT Local 1. The agency docket is the primary source for procedural updates; the bargaining-order description here is attributed to the union’s account.
The sources establish the 2024 strike action and later JFK8 proceedings, but do not establish current strike activity at JFK8 or DBK4 in October 2026. They also do not provide a neutral, verified estimate of the strike’s effect on Amazon’s workforce or operations.
