Amazon’s Prime Wardrobe is no longer an active U.S. try-before-you-buy service: Amazon ended Try Before You Buy orders on January 31, 2025. Stitch Fix remains a current styling option, but it is not a no-fee equivalent: it charges a $20 styling fee per Fix, credited toward items kept. The services also differed in who chose the clothes and how customers tried them.
Is Amazon Try Before You Buy still available?
No. Amazon ended its U.S. Prime Try Before You Buy benefit effective January 31, 2025, according to The Associated Press. Amazon said the benefit reached a limited number of items while customers increasingly used features such as virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts.
This change applied to the trial benefit, not apparel returns generally. Amazon said free apparel returns would continue; the end of Try Before You Buy did not mean customers could no longer return clothing.
How Prime Wardrobe worked
Customer-selected items in the UK launch
Amazon’s October 30, 2018 UK announcement described Prime Wardrobe as a benefit for Prime members. Members selected three to eight eligible fashion items, received them without an upfront product charge, and had seven days after delivery to decide what to keep. Customers paid for the items they kept and could return the rest free using a resealable bag and prepaid label. The announced categories included women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories. These were UK launch terms from 2018, not universal terms for every market or period. Personal Shopper added stylist curation
Amazon later announced Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe as a styling layer. Customers filled out a style survey, a stylist chose personalized recommendations, and customers previewed the selections before shipment. The announcement said customers could try delivered pieces at home for up to seven days, with free shipping and easy returns, for $4.99 per month at that time. How Prime Wardrobe and Stitch Fix differed
The clearest comparison is how clothes were selected and what customers paid before deciding what to keep. Prime Wardrobe centered on a customer-selected try-on basket; Personal Shopper added recommendations from a stylist. Stitch Fix centers on a stylist-curated Fix and currently discloses a fee for each one.

What Stitch Fix offers now
Stitch Fix’s women’s service page describes a style quiz, a match with a human stylist, and curated Fix boxes. It lists free shipping and returns, says no subscription is required, and offers automatic delivery schedules or on-demand orders. The difference matters for budgeting. Stitch Fix’s fee is charged for styling a Fix and can be applied to kept items; it is not the same arrangement as Prime Wardrobe’s historical no-upfront-product-charge basket. Neither the fee nor free shipping and returns establishes whether a particular order will save money or fit better.

Can a try-at-home clothing service change how you shop?
Prime Wardrobe’s original model shifted the try-on from a store fitting room to home: customers chose eligible items, tried them after delivery, and paid for what they kept under the announced market-specific terms. Personal Shopper added human curation. Stitch Fix keeps the curation model, with a per-Fix styling fee credited toward purchases, and offers either scheduled or on-demand ordering.
Those differences can help a shopper choose a process, not predict the outcome. The cited announcements and service description do not provide independent comparative evidence that either approach produces better fit, lower total spending, or greater satisfaction. Compare the current fee and return terms with how you prefer to choose clothing, and treat any product purchase separately from the discontinued Prime Wardrobe trial benefit.
