Eligible U.S. Amazon Prime customers may receive a refund of up to $200 in total, but not every Prime member qualifies and $200 is not guaranteed. The Federal Trade Commission says no claim form is required under the revised settlement process, and eligible payments are expected by April 2027.
Who qualifies for an Amazon Prime settlement refund?
Under the FTC’s current guidance, you must meet all three conditions:

- You were an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
- Between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, you signed up through one of the challenged enrollment flows or tried and failed to cancel through Amazon’s online cancellation flow.
- After enrolling, you used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period.
The enrollment flows identified by the FTC are the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout, and Prime Video enrollment flow. Amazon’s records will determine whether your account and history meet the criteria; public information cannot confirm an individual’s eligibility. FTC: Amazon Refunds
How much could you receive?
The maximum total refund is $200 per eligible consumer. Your actual amount depends on eligibility and the redress distribution, so the cap is not a promised payment. Earlier payments were capped at $51; the revised order allows additional payments of up to $149, subject to the $200 aggregate limit. FTC refund guidance and the FTC’s September 2026 announcement explain the revised payment structure.

Do you need to file a claim?
No. The FTC’s current guidance says eligible customers do not need to submit a claim, respond to a notice, or fill out a form to receive an automatic refund. Payments may arrive by mailed check or electronically through PayPal or Venmo. For questions about a payment, the FTC lists [email protected] and links to the official settlement website on its refund page.
When will payments arrive, and what is the acceptance deadline?
The FTC says eligible customers will receive a refund by April 2027. Expanded automatic refunds for customers who used 11–20 Prime benefits began October 1, 2026. If you receive a payment, follow the acceptance deadline in its communication: the court-approved residual payout order gives consumers in the escalation group until March 5, 2027, and the FTC’s general guidance says payments expire 60 days after issue. The date stated in your own payment communication is the one to follow. Court order on residual payouts and FTC refund guidance.

A further pro rata payment round may begin by the end of April 2027 if accepted payments do not reach the specified threshold. Eligible consumers who previously accepted a payment could receive up to $149 more, subject to the $200 total cap. This additional round is conditional, not guaranteed. Why do older articles mention a $51 cap or a three-benefit limit?
Those figures describe earlier phases of the settlement, not the current outer eligibility threshold. The September 2026 revision expanded automatic refunds to include additional consumers who used 11–20 benefits. The FTC’s current summary says the applicable limit is no more than 20 benefits in any 12-month period, and the total possible refund is now capped at $200. Older coverage based on the original phase can therefore conflict with current guidance. FTC revision announcement and current FTC refund page.

What was the settlement about?
The FTC alleged that Amazon enrolled millions of consumers in Prime without their consent and knowingly made cancellation difficult. The parties settled in September 2025; there was no trial finding of liability. The $2.5 billion headline total consists of a $1 billion civil penalty and $1.5 billion for consumer redress. The FTC estimated that 35 million consumers were impacted, but that is not a count of people who will necessarily receive a payment. As of September 2026, the FTC reported that more than $845 million in redress had been issued. FTC settlement announcement and FTC additional-payments announcement.
The order also requires Amazon to provide a clear way to decline Prime, conspicuously disclose material subscription terms—including price, billing frequency, automatic renewal, and cancellation procedures—and offer an easy cancellation method available through the same method used to enroll.
