Amazon Prime Settlement Refunds: Who Qualifies for Up to $200 and What to Do

Eligible U.S. Prime customers do not need to file a claim for the FTC settlement refund. The current maximum is $200 total, replacing the earlier $51 cap.

Amazon Prime customers in the United States who qualify for the FTC settlement do not need to submit a claim under the current process: refunds are being sent automatically. The earlier $51 cap has been replaced by a maximum total payment of $200 per eligible customer, but the amount depends on eligibility and the settlement’s payment phases. The FTC says eligible customers should receive refunds by April 2027.

Do you need to file a claim to get an Amazon Prime settlement refund?

No. Under the revised automatic process, eligible customers do not need to file a claim, respond to a notice, or complete a form. Amazon is continuing to send refunds by mailed check, PayPal, or Venmo. The earlier claims phase closed on July 27, 2026; that deadline is historical, not a deadline you can meet now. See the FTC refund page for current guidance.

Who qualifies for an automatic payment?

The FTC’s current summary says a customer must meet all three conditions below:

  1. Be an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
  2. Have enrolled through a challenged enrollment flow, or have tried and failed to cancel through the online cancellation flow, between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
  3. Have used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period following enrollment.

The FTC identifies four challenged enrollment flows: the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout, and Prime Video enrollment flow. Prime Music and Prime Video products provided free to Prime subscribers are examples of Prime benefits. The public criteria cannot establish whether a particular Amazon account qualifies; the settlement administrator can help with individual eligibility and payment questions.

How much could you receive?

The revised order permits a maximum total payment of $200 per eligible customer. That is a cap, not a guaranteed payment amount. The earlier phase capped payments at $51. Under the revised distribution, prior recipients may be eligible for an additional payment of up to $149, depending on the plan and how much in accepted payments has been distributed. The FTC reported that Amazon had issued more than $845 million in refunds by September 2026.

When will payments arrive, and how long do you have to accept one?

The FTC says eligible customers should receive refunds by April 2027. For customers in the expanded group who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a 12-month period, automatic payments were set to start October 1, 2026. For people who already received an earlier payment, a supplemental round of up to $149 is conditional: if accepted payments have not reached the stated threshold by February 2027, the next round is to start by April 2027. No prior recipient is guaranteed exactly $149.

How to avoid refund scams

The FTC says it is not contacting people about these refunds, and nobody from Amazon will ask you to pay money to receive one. Be wary of anyone offering special access or a guaranteed refund for a fee, and do not share personal information in response to an unsolicited refund message.

Why is Amazon making these payments?

In September 2025, the FTC announced a $2.5 billion settlement resolving allegations that Amazon enrolled consumers in Prime without consent and made cancellation difficult. The settlement allocated $1.5 billion for consumer refunds and $1 billion as a civil penalty. It also required changes to enrollment disclosures, a clear way to decline Prime, and an easier cancellation process. The conduct was resolved through the settlement; consumers do not need to prove the allegations themselves to receive an automatic payment if they meet the eligibility criteria.
