The best plan depends on how long you will use it and which benefits you actually use. Prices below are U.S. prices as of August 10, 2026, before applicable taxes. Which Amazon Prime plan is cheapest for you?
- Regular annual Prime: best if you expect to use Prime for at least 10 months and can comfortably pay $139 upfront.
- Regular monthly Prime: best for seasonal shopping, a short-term need or uncertain finances.
- Prime for Young Adults: generally the best value for an eligible 18- to 24-year-old or higher-education student.
- Prime Access: the cheapest full Prime option for a customer who qualifies through government assistance or income verification.
- Standalone Prime Video: worth checking when you want streaming only and the live checkout page offers it at a price you prefer.
Do not choose based only on the headline price. Prime Video’s included tier now has limited advertisements, some video titles cost extra, and not every Prime benefit is shared or available in every location.

Regular Prime monthly vs. annual pricing
Regular Prime costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Paying monthly for 12 months would cost $179.88, so annual billing saves $40.88:

The calculation is $139 divided by $14.99, or about 9.3 months. In practical terms, the annual plan becomes cheaper during month 10. That does not make annual billing automatically better: monthly billing may be preferable if you need Prime for only a few months, are testing it or cannot comfortably absorb the upfront charge.
Annual and monthly memberships are primarily different payment schedules, not separate benefit tiers. Cancellation and refund eligibility can depend on whether you used Prime benefits and how you purchased the membership, so do not assume an unused portion of an annual plan will always be refunded.

Discounted Prime memberships
Prime for Young Adults
Amazon’s current name is Prime for Young Adults. Older articles may call it Prime Student, but the current U.S. offer is broader than the old shorthand suggests.
Eligibility generally includes:
- People ages 18 through 24.
- Higher-education students, including qualifying students outside that age range.
- Customers who complete Amazon’s verification process. A qualifying
.eduemail address may be used, and Amazon may also accept a driver’s license, passport or identity card for age verification.
Eligible new members receive a six-month trial at $0. After the trial, the price is $7.49 monthly or $69 annually. The membership is marketed as including the base Prime entertainment and shopping benefits, along with young-adult promotions that may be limited-time.
Do not rely on older claims that the current trial excludes Prime Video, Music or Reading. Amazon’s current Prime for Young Adults page says the membership includes Prime’s entertainment benefits. Eligibility, prior enrollment and trial availability can still affect what Amazon displays for a particular account.
Prime Access
Prime Access costs $6.99 per month and includes Prime benefits. It is intended for qualifying government-assistance recipients and customers who verify their income. Eligible new members can receive a 30-day trial.
Amazon lists these qualifying programs:
- SNAP EBT
- Medicaid
- WIC
- SSI
- Direct Express
- TANF
- National School Lunch Program
- LIHEAP
- Tribal TANF
- NAP
- Veterans and Survivors Pension
- SSDI
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
Income verification is also supported. Eligibility must be reverified every 12 months. Amazon currently advertises Prime Access as a monthly plan, so do not assume an annual Prime Access option exists unless the live signup page shows it.

What does Amazon Prime include?
Prime is a bundle. Its value comes from combining benefits you would otherwise pay for separately or use without a membership.
Shopping and delivery
Prime offers free, fast delivery on millions of eligible products, including Same-Day, One-Day and Two-Day options in eligible locations. Amazon says more than 300 million U.S. items have free Prime shipping, while tens of millions offer Same-Day or One-Day Delivery.
That does not mean every Amazon listing ships free or quickly. Prime eligibility depends on the specific product, seller, variant, inventory, delivery address and cutoff time. The delivery date and Prime offer shown for your address at checkout control. Marketplace sellers and different product variations can have different promises.
Prime Video
Prime includes a changing selection of movies, series and some live sports through Prime Video. The catalog and sports rights vary by country and over time. Some titles are included, while others are available only to rent or buy. Prime Video Channels, which add third-party services, are also separate subscriptions.

The included U.S. Prime Video benefit is currently ad-supported. It is not accurate to describe standard Prime as automatically ad-free.
Amazon Music
Prime includes access to Amazon Music’s 100 million-song catalog and ad-free top podcasts, but the standard Prime experience is not the same as Amazon Music Unlimited’s unrestricted, on-demand tier. Amazon describes Prime Music as offering shuffle playback in its main Prime benefits material.
Prime members can subscribe to Music Unlimited separately for $10.99 per month or $109 per year. If you need to select any song on demand consistently, compare Unlimited’s price with the value of the other Prime benefits you would use.
Prime Reading, Photos and First Reads
- Prime Reading: a rotating selection of eBooks, audiobooks, comics and magazines.
- Amazon Photos: unlimited full-resolution photo storage plus 5 GB of video storage.
- Amazon First Reads: Prime members may receive a monthly selection, subject to the current program’s terms.
Gaming
Prime includes an evolving Luna game library, rotating PC games and a monthly Twitch channel subscription. The particular games, availability and platform requirements change, so treat gaming as a useful bonus rather than a fixed catalog.
Grocery, delivery and shopping savings
Current U.S. examples include:
- Free Same-Day Delivery on eligible Amazon.com grocery orders over $25 in most areas.
- Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh savings.
- $0.10 per gallon in fuel savings at more than 7,500 participating bp, Amoco, ampm and Thorntons locations.
- Grubhub+ included, with $0 delivery fees on eligible orders over $12, lower service fees and other benefits.
These are conditional benefits, not guaranteed cash savings. Fuel value depends on how often you visit a participating station. Grubhub+ matters only if you order through eligible restaurants and locations. Grocery delivery depends on address, order minimums, inventory and scheduling.
Healthcare-related programs are extra
Prime does not include healthcare. It can make certain optional programs or discounts available:
- One Medical: an optional Prime-member price of $9 per month or $99 per year for the first member, with additional memberships priced separately.
- RxPass: a separate $5-per-month prescription program for eligible generic medications.
- Prescription discounts and delivery: availability depends on the medication, location and eligibility.
Check the current terms before assigning a dollar value to any healthcare promotion. Amazon’s Prime benefits overview and One Medical FAQ describe these programs.
Prime Video pricing: included, Ultra or standalone?
There are four different ways people commonly refer to “Prime Video,” and confusing them leads to bad comparisons:
- Prime Video included with a full Prime membership.
- Standalone Prime Video without shopping Prime benefits.
- Prime Video Ultra, an optional upgrade.
- Extra-paid Channels, rentals and purchases inside Prime Video.
Prime Video included with regular Prime
Full Prime includes the standard Prime Video benefit with limited advertisements. Amazon lists support for HD, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, up to four concurrent streams and up to 50 downloads. Limits apply across account profiles, and title, device, provider, bandwidth and content restrictions still apply.

As of April 10, 2026, Prime Video Ultra costs $4.99 per month or $45.99 per year for customers with an annual Prime membership. It adds:
- Ad-free viewing for eligible Prime movies and shows.
- 4K/UHD quality.
- Dolby Atmos.
- Up to five concurrent streams.
- Up to 100 downloads.
Ultra does not necessarily remove advertisements from live sports, live events or every ad-supported program. 4K/UHD and Dolby Atmos also depend on the title, device, bandwidth and account or provider restrictions. The upgrade applies across account profiles, and some content can remain subject to separate terms.
Older articles that say ad-free Prime Video costs $2.99 per month or that 4K is included in standard Prime are outdated for this current U.S. offering. See Amazon’s Prime Video Ultra announcement and Prime Video explainer.
Standalone Prime Video
Amazon’s terms recognize video-only memberships, but its public U.S. signup pages do not consistently show the standalone offer or price. Current secondary coverage commonly reports the U.S. ad-supported standalone plan at approximately $8.99 per month, with Ultra available for an additional $4.99 per month.

Treat $8.99 as a checkout-verification figure, not an unconditional global price. Availability, billing and price can depend on country, account and the live signup flow. Amazon’s Prime Video terms and current secondary pricing coverage support the distinction, but check the offer before paying.

If you want only streaming, standalone Prime Video may be the better fit if the offer is available. If you will use even one or two meaningful non-video benefits, full Prime can make more sense because the monthly price difference is relatively small.
Can you share Amazon Prime?
Amazon Family, formerly Amazon Household, is free to set up, but one adult must have Prime. It is designed for people in the same household, not as a general account-sharing loophole.
Amazon Family supports:
- One additional adult for many Prime benefits.
- Up to four children in the household.
- Up to five adults for Amazon Photos sharing.
- Separate adult Amazon accounts.
- Shared access to selected Prime delivery, digital content, Prime Video, some music access, Grubhub+ and fuel benefits.
Adults must be at least 18 and live in the same household. Not every benefit is shared, and children cannot shop independently through Prime. Amazon replaced the former Prime Invitee arrangement with household-based Amazon Family, so older advice about sharing Prime shipping with unrelated friends at different addresses is unreliable. Free trials, billing, cancellation and refunds
The currently advertised U.S. trial offers are:
- Regular Prime: 30 days for eligible customers.
- Prime for Young Adults: six months at $0 for eligible new members.
- Prime Access: 30 days for eligible new members.
Trials automatically convert to paid memberships unless you cancel before the trial ends. Amazon says cancellation can be handled through membership settings. A practical path is:
- Open Amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app.
- Open Prime Membership or Manage Prime Membership.
- Select Manage Membership.
- Select End Membership.
- Complete the confirmation screens and save the displayed end date.
Labels can vary by app version, country and billing provider. If you bought Prime through Apple, Google, a mobile carrier or another third party, that provider may control cancellation and refund rules. Amazon’s free-trial guide and cancellation guide provide the current account-management details.
Cancellation does not automatically guarantee a refund. Amazon’s terms generally connect refund eligibility to whether you used Prime benefits during the current membership period. Third-party-billed memberships follow the third party’s rules, and you should not assume a prorated annual refund will be available.
Is Amazon Prime worth the price?
Use Prime when the benefits you will actually use exceed the membership cost—not because Amazon’s estimated benefit values look large.
Annual Prime is usually a good fit when:
- You expect at least 10 months of use.
- Your household orders eligible products regularly.
- You use Prime Video, Music, Photos, Reading, gaming or Prime-exclusive deals.
- You can pay $139 upfront without creating a cash-flow problem.
Monthly Prime is usually a good fit when:
- Your use is seasonal or uncertain.
- You need Prime for a particular event, move or shopping period.
- You may cancel within nine months.
- Keeping cash available matters more than saving on a full year.
Choose the discounted plan first when eligible
An eligible young adult or student should compare Prime for Young Adults before regular Prime: its $7.49 monthly and $69 annual prices are substantially lower, and the six-month trial is longer. An eligible low-income customer or government-assistance recipient should check Prime Access first because $6.99 per month is lower than both standard monthly Prime and Young Adults monthly pricing.
Choose standalone Prime Video only after checking the live offer
Streaming-only customers should compare the actual checkout price with the value of delivery, Music, Photos, Reading and other benefits. Because Amazon’s public pages do not consistently expose a standalone U.S. price, confirm availability before relying on the commonly reported $8.99 monthly figure.
Important limitations to check before subscribing
- A Prime badge applies to eligible items and offers, not every Amazon product.
- Delivery speed depends on inventory, address, cutoff time and location.
- Prime Video’s catalog and sports rights are regional and change over time.
- “Included with Prime” does not mean every Prime Video title is free; rentals, purchases and Channels cost extra.
- Ultra is ad-free for eligible Prime movies and shows, not necessarily every live or ad-supported program.
- 4K/UHD and Dolby Atmos require compatible content and equipment and can be limited by bandwidth or provider restrictions.
- Prime Music is not the same as unlimited on-demand Music Unlimited.
- Grubhub+, fuel savings, healthcare programs and other dollar-value claims depend on location, enrollment and actual usage.
- Amazon Family is household sharing, not unrestricted sharing with friends at different addresses.
- Trial pricing can convert automatically.
- Memberships purchased through third parties may need to be cancelled through those providers.
- Taxes may be added to the listed membership prices.
- Business Prime is a separate business product and is not included in this consumer comparison.
U.S. prices do not apply worldwide

The Federal Trade Commission says Amazon agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement concerning alleged unwanted Prime enrollment and difficult cancellation flows. This is a consumer-protection matter, not evidence that every current enrollment is unlawful.
Eligible U.S. customers may receive up to $51 if they meet the settlement’s enrollment, date and usage criteria. The FTC says claims notices began in January 2026 and that payments for the claims process are expected later in 2026. Check the FTC’s official Amazon refunds page or the official settlement website. Do not pay a third party a fee to submit a claim.
