The affiliation created ALU-IBT Local 1, associated with Amazon’s JFK8 warehouse on Staten Island. The Teamsters said in April 2026 that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) had ordered Amazon to recognize the local and begin bargaining; the NLRB docket confirms an open case but does not, in the record reviewed here, provide the underlying decision text. What the 2024 Teamsters affiliation changed
The affiliation connected the independent Amazon Labor Union with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), a national labor union. It did not itself produce a contract with Amazon. The Teamsters announced on June 5, 2024 that its board had approved the agreement, with member ratification still pending. ALU members then voted on the affiliation, and the Teamsters reported June 18 that 98.3% voted yes. (Teamsters, June 5, 2024) (Teamsters, June 18, 2024)
The Teamsters described Local 1 as a newly chartered local for JFK8 workers, with jurisdiction across New York City’s five boroughs. The Associated Press reported, based on a copy of the agreement it reviewed, that the local would remain autonomous while having rights and duties comparable to a standard Teamsters chapter. (AP, June 18, 2024)
Published headcounts differ. The Teamsters’ June 5 announcement said about 8,000 workers were employed at JFK8; its June 18 ratification release said Local 1 would represent roughly 5,500. Its April 2026 statement referred to more than 5,000 JFK8 workers. These are figures from separate dated Teamsters statements, not a reconciled count. (June 5, 2024) (June 18, 2024) (April 2, 2026)

Who ALU-IBT Local 1 represents
Local 1 is the affiliated local associated with JFK8, Amazon’s Staten Island fulfillment center. The Teamsters’ 2024 releases said its jurisdiction also covered Amazon warehouse workers across New York City’s five boroughs. The ALU says its organizing began with the April 1, 2022 representation vote at JFK8 and that it affiliated with the Teamsters in 2024. (Teamsters, June 18, 2024) (Amazon Labor Union)
The Teamsters described their own membership as 1.3 million in the 2024 affiliation releases. That is the organization’s stated figure, not an independent membership count. The practical significance for Local 1 was an affiliation with a much larger union, while the local remained the body representing its own workers. (Teamsters, June 5, 2024)

These are the union’s stated priorities. Their publication does not establish that every listed condition exists at JFK8 or that any particular condition is unlawful.

JFK8 recognition and bargaining: the latest reported status
On April 2, 2026, the Teamsters said the NLRB ruled that Amazon illegally refused to recognize ALU-IBT Local 1 and ordered the company to begin negotiations. The union also said Amazon had exhausted its options to appeal to the NLRB on the unionization issue at the facility. Those are the Teamsters’ descriptions of the ruling and its procedural effect; the decision text itself is not displayed in the NLRB docket record referenced here. (Teamsters, April 2, 2026) (NLRB case 29-CA-356909)
The NLRB docket for case 29-CA-356909, filed December 12, 2024, lists both the Teamsters and Amazon Labor Union-IBT Local 1 among the participants. When accessed, it showed an open case with docket entries through June 11, 2026. A docket’s participants, allegations, and entries are procedural information; on their own, they do not prove the allegations or establish the contents of the April 2026 decision. (NLRB case docket)

How the 2024 strike fits into the timeline
In December 2024, JFK8 workers joined a Teamsters-led Amazon strike. The union said Amazon had ignored its deadline to begin contract negotiations, and the AP reported the strike on December 19. This is a past event and does not show that a strike is continuing now. (AP, December 19, 2024)
The strike and the later reported bargaining order mark different moments in a continuing dispute: the 2024 walkout was a labor action amid the effort to negotiate, while the Teamsters’ April 2026 statement describes an NLRB order directing recognition and bargaining. They should not be collapsed into a claim that a contract has been reached.
