Amazon Inspire was real, but it is no longer available. Amazon launched the feature on December 8, 2022, as a TikTok-like feed of shoppable photos and short videos inside its mobile shopping app. The feed featured content from customers, influencers, and brands, and let shoppers tap from inspiration to Amazon product pages.
Amazon now emphasizes Shop by Interest, visual discovery, AI-assisted shopping, and shopping integrations with social platforms instead of maintaining a standalone Inspire feed.

What Amazon Inspire was
Inspire was an in-app shopping-discovery experience built around an endless, vertically scrolling stream of product photos and short-form videos. Shoppers could choose interests such as beauty, gaming, apparel, interior design, pets, or other categories, then browse personalized content.

But Inspire was not a general-purpose social network. Its central purpose was product discovery, with the shopping journey connected to Amazon listings, reviews, cart functions, and checkout.

Launch coverage described content from customers, influencers, and brands. Amazon later characterized the experience as a personalized feed of shoppable photos and videos. See the contemporary reports from The Information, Axios, and Retail Dive.
When and where it launched
Amazon announced Inspire on December 8, 2022. The initial rollout was in the United States and was limited to some users of Amazon’s iPhone and Android shopping apps. Amazon planned a broader rollout, so the feature was not available simultaneously to every customer or in every country.
That launch date matters because articles describing Inspire as a current Amazon feature are now outdated. Later reporting confirmed that Amazon shut down Inspire and told users it was “no longer available.” The available evidence does not establish a precise public shutdown date, so it is more accurate to describe the feature as discontinued than to assign it an unverified end date.
How Inspire worked for shoppers
During the original rollout, the basic shopping journey was:
- Open the Amazon Shopping app.
- Enter Inspire through the lightbulb-shaped navigation icon.
- Select or browse interests.
- Swipe through photos and videos.
- Like content or products that appealed to you.
- Tap a featured product to open its Amazon listing.
- Review the listing, add the item to your cart, or purchase it.
This navigation is historical. Amazon’s current app interface varies by device, account, app version, and rollout. Current Amazon guidance places comparable discovery features under labels such as Inspiration, Shop by Interest, or a play/discovery area with a browse control. Do not assume that the former Inspire icon or path still appears in the app.
What appeared in the feed?
Inspire brought together several types of shopping content:
Rank #2
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
- Influencer content: demonstrations, recommendations, styling ideas, and lifestyle presentations tied to products.
- Brand content: product storytelling and other branded shopping media.
- Customer content: customer photos, videos, and review-related material.
These categories had different incentives and publishing routes. A customer review video was not the same thing as an influencer recommendation, a brand post, or a paid advertisement. The common feature was that the content was connected to product discovery and, in many cases, to an Amazon product page.

Calling Inspire “TikTok-like” was accurate only in a limited sense. The comparison referred mainly to its vertical swipe interface and short-form visual feed.
| Inspire | TikTok |
|---|---|
| Built inside Amazon’s shopping app | Primarily a social-entertainment platform |
| Product discovery was the central purpose | Entertainment, creators, and community are central purposes |
| Content linked directly to Amazon listings | Shopping is an additional activity through TikTok Shop, links, and ads |
| Amazon controlled the listing, checkout, and fulfillment environment for Amazon products | Merchants and creators operate within TikTok’s commerce ecosystem |
| Designed to shorten the path from inspiration to purchase | Designed to combine discovery, entertainment, community, and commerce |
In other words, Inspire was closer to a shopping feed that borrowed TikTok’s interaction model than to a full TikTok competitor.
Why Amazon built it
Amazon has historically been associated with deliberate product searches: a shopper knows what they want, enters keywords, compares listings, and buys. Inspire tested a different path in which browsing and visual inspiration came first.
Contemporary coverage placed the launch in the broader competition for social-commerce activity. The likely strategic objectives included:
Recommended Free Tools
- Capturing product discovery that was moving to social platforms.
- Encouraging customers to browse rather than rely only on search.
- Giving brands and influencers more ways to present products inside Amazon.
- Reducing the distance between inspiration and purchase.
- Competing for shopping behavior associated with TikTok Shop and Instagram shopping.
These are analytical explanations based on the product’s design and contemporary reporting, not a definitive public statement that Amazon assigned one specific motive to Inspire.

How creators, brands, and sellers participated
Influencers
Amazon influencers could create shoppable content and potentially earn commissions through Amazon’s influencer or affiliate ecosystem. That does not necessarily mean Amazon paid creators simply for appearing in Inspire. Eligibility, commission rates, product categories, geography, and program rules can affect earnings and placement.
Creators also would not necessarily control whether or where Amazon displayed their content. There is no adequate public evidence that Inspire offered creators transparent, TikTok-style control over feed distribution or analytics.
Brands and sellers
Amazon’s seller guidance during the launch period indicated that U.S. sellers enrolled in Brand Registry and operating active Brand Stores could use Posts to distribute brand content into the Inspire experience. That guidance was historical and should not be treated as a current guarantee of placement or eligibility.

A post, an influencer recommendation, and a Sponsored Products campaign are separate mechanisms, with different eligibility and measurement rules. Current Amazon Ads information describes Sponsored Products as cost-per-click advertising and says advertised products must be in stock. See Amazon Ads’ guidance.
Was Inspire successful?
Public evidence is not sufficient to independently judge Inspire’s conversion rate, profitability, retention, or long-term engagement.
Amazon later said Inspire helped millions of shoppers discover products. That is a company claim about reach and does not by itself establish how often users returned, how many products they bought, or whether the feature was commercially profitable. Those are different measures:
- Reach: how many people saw or used the feature.
- Engagement: swipes, likes, viewing time, and repeat visits.
- Commercial performance: product clicks, add-to-cart activity, conversion, and sales.
- Strategic outcome: whether Amazon continued, renamed, replaced, or discontinued the product.
The eventual shutdown establishes that Amazon did not continue Inspire as a standalone feature. It does not, by itself, prove exactly why the product was discontinued or that every aspect of the experiment failed.

What happened to Amazon Inspire?
The Information reported that Amazon shut down Inspire and confirmed that it was no longer available. Amazon pointed users toward other discovery and social-shopping features.
The more useful interpretation is not that Amazon abandoned visual shopping altogether. Instead, it appears to have moved from one dedicated social feed to a broader portfolio that includes interest-based browsing, influencer content, AI-assisted discovery, visual search, and shopping through external social platforms.

Shop by Interest
Amazon’s current consumer-facing materials promote Shop by Interest, a mobile-focused discovery experience featuring shoppable photos, videos, and idea lists. Amazon says the content can be curated by influencers and customers and organized around interests such as camping, pets, beauty, storage, décor, and gaming.
Shop by Interest is best described as a comparable successor-style experience, not necessarily a one-for-one replacement officially named as such by Amazon. Current access paths can vary. Amazon’s guidance refers to Inspiration or to a play/discovery icon and browse control, depending on the page and app experience. See Amazon’s shopping tips and its feature overview.
AI-assisted and visual discovery
Amazon is also investing in tools that help shoppers describe, visualize, or refine what they want. Its current materials discuss visual suggestions, Amazon Lens, “Shop by style,” and conversational product assistance. Amazon says Rufus was renamed Alexa for Shopping on May 13, 2026; because product names and availability can change, readers should verify the current label in the app.
Shopping through social platforms
Amazon says customers can shop or check out through product advertising integrations on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, and TikTok. This is a different strategy from keeping discovery entirely inside Amazon: Amazon can place shopping opportunities where customers are already watching and sharing content.

What Inspire meant for shoppers’ finances
A visual shopping feed can be useful for discovering gift ideas, décor, clothing, hobbies, and products that are difficult to find through keywords. But reducing the distance between a recommendation and checkout can also encourage impulse spending.
Whether browsing Inspire, Shop by Interest, or social-commerce content, use the feed as a discovery tool rather than proof that an item is the best value. Before buying:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Open the full product detail page.
- Check the recent reviews and whether they appear relevant to the exact product variation.
- Confirm the seller, price, shipping cost, delivery estimate, and return terms.
- Compare competing products instead of buying the first item shown.
- Remember that creator demonstrations are promotional or personal recommendations, not independent testing.
- Recheck price and availability because both can change after content is published.
A product appearing repeatedly in a personalized feed does not independently establish quality, low price, or suitability for your budget.
What it means for creators and sellers now
Creators seeking Amazon monetization should look at the current Amazon Influencer Program and Amazon Associates rather than trying to access Inspire. Neither program guarantees distribution, commissions, or a particular placement.
Brand owners can review Amazon Brand Registry, current Posts availability, and Amazon Ads. Eligibility may depend on trademark rights, Brand Registry status, an active Brand Store, geography, product category, and changing program rules.
For businesses specifically seeking active short-form-video commerce, TikTok Shop is a closer current alternative. For merchants wanting more control over their own storefront and customer relationship, Shopify offers a different model. TikTok Shop is social-first and platform-dependent; Shopify is merchant-owned but requires the seller to generate more of its own demand. Amazon remains a marketplace with built-in shopping intent but less control over the customer relationship.

Amazon did launch Inspire on December 8, 2022: a TikTok-like, vertically scrolling feed of shoppable photos and videos from customers, influencers, and brands. It connected visual discovery directly to Amazon listings and checkout.
But Inspire is no longer available. Amazon’s current direction is broader rather than centered on one dedicated feed: Shop by Interest, visual and AI-assisted discovery, influencer content, advertising, and social-platform shopping integrations. For shoppers, that means using visual recommendations carefully and comparing the full cost before buying. For creators and sellers, it means focusing on Amazon’s current programs rather than treating Inspire as an active channel.
