If you used the benefit but live at a different primary residential address from the Prime member, you can no longer rely on that member’s Prime status for your own eligible deliveries. This does not stop a Prime member from ordering a gift to another address; it ends the separate shared benefit for the invitee.
What changed on October 1, 2025
The Prime Invitee program had allowed a Prime member to share free delivery with one person who did not live at the member’s primary residential address. That shared delivery access ended in the US on October 1, 2025. Amazon’s Customer Service page says invitees lose access to the shared Prime delivery benefit and can use Amazon Family instead. The page still phrases the end date prospectively, but the date has passed.
The change affects the invitee’s own access to eligible Prime delivery. It does not prevent a Prime customer from placing an order and sending it to a person who lives elsewhere.
Can someone with a different address join Amazon Family?
Generally, no. Amazon Family is the current name for the benefit-sharing arrangement previously called Amazon Household; About Amazon announced the name change on March 7, 2025. Its adult members must live together at the same primary residential address. Amazon defines that as “the address you consider to be your home and where you spend the majority of your time,” according to its Customer Service guidance.

So a former invitee who lives elsewhere cannot keep the old arrangement simply by being added to the Prime member’s Amazon Family. If you do meet the same-household rule, ask the organizer to add you. If you do not, Amazon directs you to get your own Prime membership.
What Amazon Family can share
Amazon’s current US help page describes an Amazon Family with one other adult, up to four teens subject to date restrictions, and up to four children. The adults must satisfy the same-address rule. The available benefits extend beyond delivery and include selected Prime events and deals, Prime Video with ads, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos and some digital content. Amazon Music Prime has separate sharing limits, and Prime Video Ad Free requires an individual subscription.

Amazon says payment-method sharing helps verify that adults live in the same household. For newly created Amazon Families, the organizer shares payment methods one way; older two-way arrangements have transition conditions. That does not mean both adults must disclose a payment method in every current case.
Amazon says free-trial members, Student and Young Adult Prime members, and Prime Video-only members cannot share Prime benefits through Family. Check the current Amazon Family eligibility and benefit details before changing an account, since its rules can change.

The former invitee discount has expired
In September 2025, Amazon reportedly offered affected invitees a first year of Prime for $14.99 if they signed up between September 5 and December 31, 2025. The Associated Press reported that the offer ended December 31, 2025; it is not a current deal. The AP also reported then-current regular prices of $14.99 monthly or $139 annually, but those were 2025 figures and should not be treated as today’s rates. See the Associated Press report for the historical offer details.
