LinkedIn’s April 2024 U.S. Top Companies in Technology and Information ranking placed Amazon first, AT&T second and Verizon third. The list measured signals associated with career progression—not salary, work-life balance, job security or overall employee satisfaction—so it is a historical employer shortlist rather than a 2026 guarantee that these are the best workplaces for every technology professional.
LinkedIn’s announcement is available at LinkedIn’s 2024 ranking.

Companies also had to have at least 5,000 employees worldwide and at least 500 employees in the United States, measured on December 31, 2023. That eligibility rule favors large employers with substantial LinkedIn data. Startups, small businesses, many regional firms, nonprofits and public-sector organizations were not compared on the same basis.
LinkedIn’s public material describes the factors but does not provide a fully reproducible company-by-company scorecard. Consequently, the ranking shows which employers performed strongly in LinkedIn’s proprietary model; it does not prove that Amazon had the highest promotion rate or that Verizon offers the best training.
Why Amazon ranked No. 1
According to the TechRepublic report, Amazon had committed more than $1.2 billion to employee skills training. Reported offerings included prepaid tuition, paid apprenticeships, on-the-job learning and industry certifications. The company’s Amazon AI Ready initiative and a reported $12 million in generative-AI scholarships were also cited.

Amazon’s scale creates a large internal labor market spanning cloud computing, software, data, artificial intelligence, security, product management, technical support, logistics systems and operations technology. That breadth is a plausible explanation for strong mobility signals, but it is an interpretation—not a causal explanation published by LinkedIn.

What an Amazon applicant should check
- Whether the target organization has a documented technical or management career ladder.
- Whether advancement normally requires a team or location change.
- Which training is available to the specific employment category and business unit.
- The team’s current priorities, workload and performance expectations.
A company-wide tuition or AI program does not establish equal access, high completion or a promotion for every participant. Review current openings on Amazon Jobs and verify requirements for the exact role.
Why AT&T ranked No. 2
The report cited AT&T’s $132 million investment in employee training in 2023. It also quoted LinkedIn information saying fewer than 5% of AT&T roles required a college degree. That statistic should not be read as “AT&T does not require degrees”: engineering, cybersecurity, data, management and other job families may have different standards.

AT&T’s reported Ask AT&T platform used AI capabilities such as code generation, meeting summarization and customer assistance. The report also described no-cost mental-health counseling and coaching, doula assistance, subsidized childcare, and fertility and postpartum support.
What an AT&T applicant should check
- Whether the specific posting accepts certifications, military experience, apprenticeships or equivalent experience in place of a degree.
- How requirements differ among network, field, union, retail, call-center and corporate roles.
- Whether the advertised training is paid, scheduled during work time and available to the role you want.

Why Verizon ranked No. 3
Reported Verizon initiatives included tuition assistance, a rotational Network Leadership Development program, machine-learning and data-analytics fundamentals, AI hackathons, workshops, online courses and on-the-job training. TechRepublic also described a generative-AI customer-service pilot involving approximately 1,000 agents and workplace policies addressing data privacy, algorithmic bias and responsible AI use.

The report listed benefits that included coverage beginning on the first day, five weeks of paid time off, backup child and elder care, a 401(k) plan and student-loan payment matching. Benefits can vary by employment status, location, union coverage, job grade and plan year, so treat these as reported program descriptions rather than guaranteed 2026 terms.
What a Verizon applicant should check
- Whether a rotational program is open to external applicants or limited to selected employees.
- Which network, cybersecurity, wireless and data roles receive practical AI training.
- Location, shift, travel and on-site requirements for the specific position.

It is not a pay or job-quality league table
The ranking does not establish highest total compensation, best work-life balance, lowest layoff risk, strongest culture or greatest employee satisfaction. Large employers can still reorganize, close teams or reduce headcount. A strong company-stability signal is not individual job security.
Corporate programs are inputs, not outcomes
Training budgets, tuition assistance and AI courses show that a resource exists. They do not show participation, completion, equal access, promotion rates or a positive return for every career stage.

Company brand is not the same as technology job
Amazon, AT&T and Verizon employ people in many non-engineering roles. A software, cloud, networking, cybersecurity or data candidate should assess the specific organization, manager, job family and level rather than infer conditions from the corporate name.
How to use the list when choosing an employer
- Match the employer to your target role. Compare the company’s current openings with your skills, preferred technology stack and desired career track.
- Test mobility claims. Look for published career ladders, internal postings, lateral-move policies and evidence that both technical and management paths exist.
- Verify learning terms. Check tuition limits, certification reimbursement, paid learning time, apprenticeship eligibility and access for hourly, part-time or contract workers.
- Investigate the team. Ask about funding, turnover, manager tenure, workload, promotion timing and whether advancement requires relocation.
- Compare the full offer. Evaluate base salary, bonus, equity, sign-on awards, retirement contributions, health costs, leave, overtime or shift premiums and relocation obligations.
- Confirm the work arrangement. Determine whether the role is remote, hybrid, office-based, field-based, travel-heavy or shift-based, and check location-specific return-to-office rules.
- Update the evidence. Because this is a 2024 ranking, review current earnings, hiring patterns, layoff announcements and the business unit’s strategic importance before accepting an offer.
Career context behind the 2024 list
TechRepublic reported that LinkedIn identified learning new skills as one of professionals’ three leading career goals for 2024, alongside better pay and better work-life balance. It also reported that 68% of surveyed working Americans considered continuing education and upskilling important when applying for or taking a new job.
Those figures describe what workers say they value, not what a particular employee will receive. Use them to frame questions about development, then verify the answer in the job posting, benefits documents and conversations with the hiring team.

- AWS Training and AWS Certification for cloud and AI learning relevant to some Amazon and wider technology roles. Course and exam prices vary and were not established here.
