Some Amazon customers may see an account-specific offer for up to 50% off when they use American Express Membership Rewards points, with a reported maximum discount of $80. It is not a universal Amex benefit: check the offer shown in your own Amazon account for its point minimum, discount cap, eligible items, activation requirements and expiration before ordering.
How to check whether the Amazon offer is available to you
Amazon’s offer can vary by account. A July 24, 2026 report from Doctor of Credit described several versions, not one standard offer. The live offer displayed to you—and its checkout terms—should govern if they differ from that report.
- Sign in to the Amazon account you plan to use. Look for the Membership Rewards or Shop with Points offer on Amazon, then read its complete terms.
- Check activation and eligibility. Confirm whether you must activate the offer and whether it applies to your account, the products in your cart, and your intended redemption.
- Note the minimum points and discount cap. These can differ between offer versions. Check the live page for any customer or redemption limit.
- Confirm the expiration date. Do not assume that a date in a deal report applies to your account or offer variant.
- Review checkout before placing the order. Verify that the promotion appears and that the points redemption, discount and remaining card charge match the displayed terms.
What the reported offer versions included
Doctor of Credit’s July 24, 2026 report listed these variants. They are reported offer terms, not a guarantee that any particular version is currently available to you.
| Reported discount | Reported maximum discount |
|---|---|
| 15% | $15 |
| 30% | $30 |
| 40% | $60 |
| 50% | $80 |
The report also said minimum point requirements varied, but did not establish a single minimum for all accounts. Check the offer itself for the required redemption and any excluded products or other restrictions.

How the $80 cap works in an illustration
If your own offer says 50% off with an $80 cap, half of a $160 eligible subtotal is $80. That is only the arithmetic of the stated percentage and cap: it does not establish that your cart qualifies, or how taxes, shipping, sellers, categories or individual items are treated. Use the checkout discount—not the illustration—to determine your actual savings.
How Membership Rewards points are applied at Amazon
Amex says eligible Card Members can use points at amazon.com through Shop with Points. The points redemption and promotional discount are separate parts of the transaction: do not assume the promotion changes the value of every redeemed point or that it makes the redemption cost-free. Compare the full checkout amount with the card account activity afterward.

- If points cover the full purchase: Amex says the card is charged and the points used are deducted, with a corresponding statement credit for the points used.
- If points cover only part: The remaining balance is charged separately after the purchase ships.
See Amex’s Amazon Shop with Points FAQ for its explanation of the transaction. Eligible-card and account requirements apply.
Link your eligible card and rewards account before checkout
Amex’s June 2025 Membership Rewards terms describe linking an eligible card and Rewards Account to Amazon. One linking route can take up to 72 hours; the terms describe selecting “Learn More” next to an eligible card at checkout as a way to use points immediately. If the card is not linked, the points option may not be ready when you need it. The terms also describe a limitation for accounts linked only to a Legacy Card.

Why your offer may differ—or may not appear
The discount, cap and minimum redemption are not necessarily the same for every customer. Doctor of Credit’s July 2026 report documented multiple versions. CNBC Select likewise described targeted Amazon offers, including versions up to 50% off with an $80 cap, in an April 2, 2026 report; its campaign window was tied to July 2026, so it is earlier context rather than proof of an October offer. See CNBC Select’s report.
If you cannot see the offer, or see different terms, rely on the offer and checkout pages for your account. Public reports do not establish October 2026 terms for every customer. Confirm the exact products and charges that qualify; do not infer that gift cards or other specific categories are eligible unless your live terms say so.
