Altcoins to Watch in 2026: BlockDAG, NEAR, Polygon (POL) and Celestia

BlockDAG, NEAR, Polygon and Celestia target different blockchain uses. See what each project says its token does—and what remains unverified before comparing them.

There is no evidence-based “best” ranking for these four altcoins in the available comparable data. They target different parts of blockchain infrastructure: BlockDAG describes a DAG/Proof-of-Work network, NEAR is pursuing chain abstraction and autonomous AI agents, Polygon PoS uses POL for gas and staking, and Celestia provides data-availability services. This is a guide to what each project says it does and what to verify—not a price ranking or investment recommendation. The 2025 framing is outdated; this comparison reflects first-party material retrieved on 4 October 2026.

How do BlockDAG, NEAR, Polygon and Celestia differ?

The tokens are not direct substitutes. A useful starting point is the network function each project emphasizes and the role its token is intended to play. The descriptions below reflect project documentation; they do not establish adoption, security, liquidity or investment value.

Project and token Network focus described by the project Token role described by the project
BlockDAG (BDAG) DAG/Proof-of-Work design with an EVM account model The retrieved materials describe staking and other token-related milestones, but do not establish a comparable, independently verified demand measure.
NEAR Protocol (NEAR) Chain abstraction and autonomous AI agents The supplied NEAR materials focus on architecture and roadmap; they do not establish a comparable token-demand measure.
Polygon PoS (POL) Proof-of-stake network Native gas and staking token
Celestia (TIA) Data availability for rollups Used for blobspace fees; may also be used by rollup builders as gas and currency, and supports staking and governance.

Because the uses differ, a meaningful comparison needs more than a technology label. It also needs dated and consistently defined evidence on usage, token supply, liquidity, exchange access, security and execution risk.

What is BlockDAG (BDAG), and what is established about its launch?

What the project says it has built

BlockDAG’s developer hub describes a DAG/Proof-of-Work design, an EVM account model and protocol features. These are BlockDAG’s descriptions of its design; the materials here do not independently establish live usage, security or performance.

How to interpret its launch timeline

BlockDAG’s mainnet page reports that mainnet went live on 10 February 2026 and that the token generation event took place on 11 February 2026. The page also lists staking, claims and exchange milestones through spring 2026. Those dates and milestones are project-reported, not independent confirmation that every milestone was completed or that exchanges provide usable liquidity. BlockDAG’s pages contain evolving or inconsistent timeline descriptions, so check a dated announcement and chain data rather than treating a roadmap entry as settled.

Before drawing conclusions about BDAG, look for a functioning block explorer, independent security audits, exchange confirmation and observable chain activity. The available sources do not settle those questions.

What does NEAR’s chain-abstraction strategy mean?

Capability is not the same as adoption

NEAR’s roadmap presents cross-chain financial infrastructure and autonomous AI agents as connected priorities. Its chain-abstraction materials describe chain signatures, which allow NEAR smart contracts to sign transactions on other chains through an MPC network secured by NEAR validators. The same materials describe Omnibridge and NEAR Intents.

This describes an architectural approach, not proof that users or developers have adopted it at scale, or that it outperforms alternatives. To assess whether the strategy is gaining traction, compare independently defined measures of chain activity, fees, developer activity and cross-chain volume over a stated period. The cited NEAR pages do not provide a comparable cross-project adoption assessment.

Is Polygon still MATIC, or is POL the current token?

POL on Polygon PoS

Polygon support identifies POL as the native gas and staking token on Polygon PoS. Polygon’s staking page describes delegating POL to validators as a way to help secure the network. That is the stated function; it does not by itself establish a particular reward rate or investment return.

Check the network and venue during a migration

Polygon’s migration guidance discusses effects on symbols, wallets, bridges, oracles and staking providers. For custody or a transfer, check the exact asset ticker, network and instructions shown by the wallet or exchange you use. “MATIC” should not be treated as the sole current label for Polygon PoS gas and staking.

What is Celestia’s TIA used for, and what is known about supply?

Data-availability fees and other stated uses

Celestia’s TIA overview describes TIA as the fee token for data-availability blobspace. Rollup builders may also use it as gas and currency to bootstrap a chain before issuing a separate token. Celestia’s documentation also describes staking and governance uses.

Inflation figures are upgrade-sensitive

Celestia’s staking, governance and supply documentation states that TIA had a genesis supply of 1,000,000,000. It says the v6 upgrade, identified as taking place in November 2025, reduced inflation to about 2.5%, with a 6.7% annual decrease continuing until a 1.5% floor. These are figures from Celestia documentation retrieved on 4 October 2026, not an independently verified live supply calculation. They are upgrade-sensitive; check current on-chain parameters before relying on them.

What should you verify before putting any of these tokens on a watchlist?

A technical feature can be real without proving user demand, and a token’s stated function does not guarantee that demand will accrue to holders. Before comparing these projects as financial assets, check the following with the same date range and definitions wherever possible:

  • Usage: Look for independently defined measures of active use, fees, transactions, developers or data availability. Do not equate a roadmap feature with usage.
  • Token supply: Establish circulating and total supply, issuance, unlock schedules and any upgrade-related changes. The sources cited here do not provide a consistent supply comparison across all four assets.
  • Liquidity and access: Confirm current exchange availability, trading depth and the correct network and ticker. A listed asset is not necessarily liquid, and availability can vary by jurisdiction and venue.
  • Security and governance: Review audits, validator or consensus design, upgrade processes, governance control and any known incidents using evidence specific to each network.
  • Execution risk: Distinguish delivered functionality from plans, especially where a project’s own milestone descriptions have changed or where a roadmap is the main evidence available.
  • Personal financial risk: Consider whether you can tolerate a large or complete loss, and do not treat a project’s technical promise as a forecast of token performance.

The materials cited in this comparison do not establish current prices, market capitalizations, comparable circulating supplies, adoption figures, trading depth, jurisdiction-specific legal status or a cross-project risk ranking. Without consistent, dated evidence on those points, naming one of these tokens “best” would imply more certainty than the available information supports.
