Alphabet announced on June 5, 2024, that Eli Lilly finance chief Anat Ashkenazi would become CFO and senior vice president of Alphabet and Google on July 31. The company’s SEC-filed offer letter disclosed a $1 million annual salary, a $9.9 million cash sign-on bonus, an annual bonus opportunity, and equity awards. Those offer terms are not the same as guaranteed annual earnings or the value of compensation she ultimately realized.

When did Anat Ashkenazi become Alphabet CFO?

Alphabet announced the appointment on June 5, 2024; Ashkenazi took up the role effective July 31, 2024. Until then, Ruth Porat remained CFO, including through Alphabet’s second-quarter earnings. Porat had been named president and chief investment officer in 2023. Alphabet’s announcement set out the transition.

Eli Lilly announced Ashkenazi’s resignation as its CFO on June 5, 2024, saying she was leaving to pursue an opportunity outside the pharmaceutical industry. Lilly’s announcement described her more than two decades at the company and her earlier finance leadership across research and business functions.

Who is Anat Ashkenazi?

Ashkenazi joined Eli Lilly in 2001 and spent more than 23 years there in finance, strategy, and operations roles. She became Lilly’s senior vice president and CFO in 2021. Before that appointment, she was corporate controller and head of strategy, according to Lilly’s 2021 announcement.

Alphabet’s 2026 proxy statement says Ashkenazi served as Lilly’s executive vice president and CFO from February 2021 through July 2024. Earlier, from 2016 to 2021, she was senior vice president, controller, and CFO of Lilly Research Laboratories. Her roles also included finance leadership in Lilly’s Oncology, Diabetes, Global Manufacturing & Quality, and Research & Development divisions. Alphabet’s filed biography lists a BA in economics and business administration from Hebrew University and an MBA from Tel Aviv University. Alphabet’s 2026 proxy statement is the source for those biographical details.

What did Alphabet offer Ashkenazi?

Alphabet’s June 5, 2024 SEC filing included a June 3 offer letter signed by CEO Sundar Pichai. It disclosed salary, cash, bonus eligibility, and equity grant values. The figures below are stated offer or grant values in that letter, not an independently calculated total-compensation figure. Read the SEC-filed offer letter.

Component Disclosed term How to interpret it
Annual salary $1,000,000 Stated annual salary.
Cash sign-on bonus $9,900,000 A sign-on payment, not recurring salary.
Annual bonus opportunity Up to 200% of annual salary Prorated for time worked and based on goals approved by the board compensation committee; the maximum is an opportunity, not a guaranteed payout.
Time-based equity $13,100,000 for the remainder of 2024; $17,000,000 for 2025; $6,000,000 for 2026 Stated grant values with quarterly vesting on the schedule in the offer letter. Grant value does not establish eventual realized value.
Performance-based equity $5,000,000 target grant Tied to relative total shareholder return versus the S&P 100 for a performance period ending December 31, 2026; vesting depends on performance conditions.

Salary and sign-on cash are distinct from bonus eligibility and equity. The equity awards are subject to their grant terms and vesting; the performance award also depends on meeting its conditions. The filed values therefore should not be added together and described as guaranteed cash pay for a single year.

Does Ashkenazi still serve as Alphabet CFO?

Alphabet’s 2026 proxy statement says Ashkenazi has served as CFO of Alphabet and Google since July 2024. That filing is the latest current-role confirmation in the sources cited here.
