Alphabet’s fourth quarter was strong on revenue, net income and EPS, with Google Cloud providing the clearest evidence that enterprise AI demand is becoming a profitable business. The complication is the next step: Alphabet plans $175–$185 billion of capital spending in 2026, while depreciation, infrastructure costs and supply constraints are rising.
For the quarter ended December 31, 2025, Alphabet reported $113.8 billion of revenue, up 18% year over year; $34.5 billion of net income, up 30%; and diluted EPS of $2.82, up 31%. Google Cloud revenue jumped 48% to $17.7 billion, and its operating margin expanded to 30.1%.

How big was the “beat”?
“Beat” depends on which line is being compared. S&P Global’s Visible Alpha data put expected revenue at $111.4 billion, making Alphabet’s $113.8 billion result a 2.2% beat. The same analysis says Google Cloud revenue was 8.5% above consensus and its 30.1% margin exceeded expectations by 708 basis points. S&P Global also describes Alphabet as beating earnings expectations, but the available comparison does not provide a precise EPS-consensus figure.
The quarter was not uniformly ahead of forecasts: consolidated operating profit was 2.6% below estimates. That shortfall included a $2.1 billion Waymo-related stock-compensation charge. (S&P Global’s Visible Alpha analysis)
Google Cloud became the central growth and profit engine
Cloud revenue reached $17.664 billion, up 48% from a year earlier. Operating income rose to $5.313 billion from $2.1 billion, and the margin widened from 17.5% to 30.1%. In other words, Cloud added roughly $3.2 billion of year-over-year operating income while growing faster than the rest of Alphabet.

What drove the growth
- Enterprise AI infrastructure, including Google’s TPU accelerators and third-party GPUs.
- AI solutions built around Gemini and other models.
- Core cloud infrastructure and application services.
- Cybersecurity and data-analytics products.
- Google Workspace, helped by seat growth and higher average revenue per seat.
- Larger commitments from existing customers and a higher rate of new-customer wins.
Alphabet said enterprise AI products were generating billions of dollars in quarterly revenue. It also reported a Cloud backlog of $240 billion, up 55% sequentially and more than double year over year, and said Cloud ended 2025 at an annual revenue run rate above $70 billion. The rest of Alphabet still mattered
Search remained resilient
Search and other advertising revenue rose 17% to $63.1 billion and was 2.9% above Visible Alpha consensus. Retail was the largest contributing advertising vertical, while management highlighted continued usage growth and new AI features. The results show continued Search monetization, but they do not prove that any particular AI feature caused the growth.

Services produced most of the operating profit
Alphabet’s Services segment reported $95.862 billion of revenue in the release. On the earnings call, management rounded that figure to $95.5 billion, described growth of about 14%, and reported Services operating income of $40.1 billion, up 22%, with a 41.9% margin.
YouTube was a relative weak spot
YouTube advertising revenue increased 9% to $11.4 billion, but missed consensus by 3.8%, according to S&P Global. Alphabet attributed some pressure to comparison with unusually strong U.S. election-related advertising in Q4 2024. Including advertising and subscriptions, full-year YouTube revenue exceeded $60 billion.
Other Bets and Waymo reduced reported profit
Other Bets generated $370 million of revenue and an operating loss of $3.6 billion. That loss included a $2.1 billion Waymo stock-compensation charge following an increase in Waymo’s valuation after a financing round. The charge affected reported operating income and margins; it is not the same as a recurring cash operating expense.
What the AI metrics do—and do not—prove
Alphabet said revenue from products built on its generative AI models grew nearly 400% year over year in Q4. Management also reported more than 120,000 enterprises using Gemini, over 8 million paid Gemini Enterprise seats across more than 2,800 companies, and more than 5 billion Gemini Enterprise customer interactions during the quarter.
For consumer products, Alphabet reported more than 325 million paid subscriptions across its services and more than 750 million monthly active users for the Gemini app. These are company-reported operating metrics, not independently audited financial measures. User counts, interactions and seats indicate adoption, but they are not themselves revenue or profit.

Alphabet guided to $175–$185 billion of 2026 capital expenditure, compared with $91.4 billion in 2025. About 60% of 2025 investment went to servers and 40% to data centers and networking equipment.

This spending is intended to meet demand for AI compute and cloud capacity, but it raises the return-on-capital hurdle. Alphabet said supply of chips, power, land and components remains constrained. Depreciation already rose 38%, from $15.3 billion in 2024 to $21.1 billion in 2025, and management expects depreciation growth to accelerate in Q1 2026 and increase meaningfully for the full year. More servers and data centers can support future revenue, but they also create costs before capacity is fully utilized.
The bullish interpretation
- Cloud growth is accelerating while margins are expanding.
- AI demand is showing up in infrastructure, model products, Workspace and enterprise contracts, not only in user numbers.
- Search continues to grow despite concerns about generative AI disruption.
- The $240 billion backlog provides substantial customer visibility, subject to conversion and execution.
- Strong cash generation and more than $126 billion of cash and marketable securities give Alphabet financial capacity to invest.
The risks investors must price in
- Nearly doubling annual capital spending raises the amount of revenue and profit required to earn acceptable returns.
- Depreciation, energy, data-center and networking costs can pressure margins even if revenue grows quickly.
- Operating profit missed estimates, showing that a revenue and EPS beat does not capture every cost.
- Supply constraints could prevent Alphabet from converting demand into recognized revenue on schedule.
- Microsoft, Amazon, OpenAI and other competitors increase execution pressure across models, infrastructure and distribution.
- Backlog does not disclose exact revenue timing, margins, cancellation risk or the capital required to fulfill commitments.
- Other Bets remains a significant source of losses and quarter-to-quarter volatility.
What to watch through 2026
- Google Cloud revenue growth and whether the 30.1% margin is sustained or fluctuates with mix and investment.
- Backlog conversion into reported revenue and operating income.
- Availability of chips, power and data-center capacity.
- Depreciation growth and free cash flow after capital expenditure.
- Search revenue and monetization as AI Overviews and AI Mode expand.
- Gemini Enterprise seat growth, retention and revenue per customer.
- Whether operating-income growth keeps pace with consolidated revenue growth.
What the result means for enterprise buyers
Alphabet’s numbers support continued evaluation of Google Cloud infrastructure, Vertex AI and Workspace with Gemini, but they do not establish that any product is the cheapest or best. Cloud and enterprise-AI pricing varies by region, accelerator, model, usage and contract. Buyers can consult Google Cloud, Vertex AI and Google Workspace pricing, then compare requirements with AWS and Microsoft Azure.
The Bottom Line
Alphabet delivered a genuine Q4 2025 top-line and EPS beat, and Google Cloud supplied the strongest evidence yet that its AI business can generate substantial profit. The investment case now depends on whether Cloud and other AI revenue can grow fast enough to justify a planned $175–$185 billion infrastructure buildout while absorbing higher depreciation, supply constraints and ongoing losses elsewhere.
