Allegiant Air’s last scheduled flight at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was reported for January 3, 2026. The two routes listed as still operating that winter—Bellingham–LAX and Cincinnati–LAX—were both scheduled to end that day. AeroRoutes reported the schedule change; Allegiant did not announce that final-flight date in the sources available.
When did Allegiant end service at LAX?
AeroRoutes reported on September 21, 2025, that Allegiant planned to discontinue LAX service, with its last scheduled flight on January 3, 2026. The report named Bellingham, Washington, and Cincinnati, Ohio, as the remaining origins for winter-season LAX service. Because this date comes from schedule reporting, it is best described as the last flight then scheduled, not as a separately confirmed announcement by Allegiant.
Allegiant said in a May 12, 2021 announcement that it had served LAX since 2009. The reported end date therefore marks nearly 17 years of service—not two full decades. In 2021, the airline also said it had a full-time aircraft and crew base at LAX beginning in 2016, served 33 cities in 21 states from the airport, and had carried more than 4.2 million passengers through LAX since starting service. Why is Allegiant ending LAX service?
Allegiant attributed its decision to airport costs. In a response to Senate questions published September 30, 2025, the company said airport-imposed fees exceeded $50 per passenger while its average fare was $78. Allegiant characterized that combination, alongside other airport factors, as unsustainable. The figures are the company’s explanation; they are not an independently verified cost or fare analysis. How is a base closure different from the last flight?
A base is where an airline stations aircraft and crew; ending base operations does not necessarily mean every scheduled passenger flight stops on the same day. Allegiant’s Senate response referred to having recently ceased base operations at LAX, while AeroRoutes reported the final scheduled passenger service several months later. The two dates describe different operational milestones, not a contradiction.
What routes and alternatives should travelers check?
The two remaining routes identified in the schedule report were Bellingham–LAX and Cincinnati–LAX, both scheduled to end January 3, 2026. Allegiant’s current airport directory lists California airports including Hollywood Burbank (BUR), Fresno (FAT), Monterey (MRY), John Wayne (SNA), Santa Maria (SMX), and Stockton (SCK), but it does not list LAX. Those airports are possibilities to investigate, not guaranteed replacements for a particular LAX itinerary. Allegiant announced in November 2025 that Burbank service to Des Moines and Indianapolis would begin in May 2026; that announcement does not establish a replacement for either discontinued LAX route. - How far the airport is from your actual destination and the time and cost of ground transportation.
- Whether the itinerary is nonstop or requires a connection, and which days it operates.
- The fare plus baggage and other applicable fees for your travel dates.
- Whether you already hold an Allegiant booking that needs to be changed or canceled.
What should passengers with existing bookings do?
For itinerary changes or cancellations, Allegiant’s travel alerts direct passengers to handle the request with Allegiant. The airline says third parties and travel agencies do not process those changes. Check your booking and contact Allegiant through its official channels; whether you qualify for a refund, rebooking, or other remedy depends on your specific itinerary and applicable terms. The airline’s LAX-specific explanation was airport costs. Separately, Allegiant’s June 30, 2026 SEC filing identifies broader factors that can affect network growth, including fuel prices, aircraft delivery timing and maintenance, crew availability, airport construction and disruption, leisure-travel demand, and macroeconomic or geopolitical conditions.
