It was conditional bargaining authority, not a strike announcement. The later development is that Allegiant said pilots ratified a new collective bargaining agreement on July 31, 2026, with nearly 80% of votes in favor.
What the 97.4% vote meant
Teamsters Local 2118 said Allegiant pilots voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if the union and airline failed to reach an acceptable agreement. The union said it represented about 1,300 Allegiant pilots at the time. The figure describes support among pilots who voted; the union announcement did not state the number of ballots cast or turnout. An authorization vote is not the same as a walkout. The Teamsters described possible next steps under the Railway Labor Act, including seeking release from mediation and a 30-day cooling-off period. A general explanation from the Air Line Pilots Association notes that an authorization vote can occur before an impasse and does not mean a strike is imminent or inevitable; that FAQ is general process context, not a record of Allegiant’s specific legal status. What the union said the dispute involved
In its 2024 communications, the union identified compensation, schedules and quality-of-life issues as bargaining concerns. It said talks over schedules and quality-of-life issues had been underway since June and that the National Mediation Board was conducting mediation. These are the union’s accounts of the negotiations, not an independent determination of either side’s positions.

Captain Scott Whitman, whom the union identified as a 20-year Allegiant captain, objected to proposed scheduling concessions, saying: “It is outrageous that Allegiant is trying to get us to make these scheduling concessions to pay for wage increases.” That statement reflects the union’s position at the time. The 2026 agreement changed the current picture
Allegiant Travel Company reported that pilots represented by Teamsters Local 2118 ratified a new collective bargaining agreement on July 31, 2026. Its SEC filing says the agreement includes new pay tables, enhanced retirement contributions and other benefits, and a transition to a commercial preferential bidding system intended to improve schedule-construction transparency and support the company’s operating model. The company’s second-quarter 2026 results release said nearly 80% of votes favored ratification. It also said eligible pilots’ accrued retention bonus would become payable in the fourth quarter of 2026. The release does not state an exact ballot count, turnout or vote denominator. How to distinguish the two votes

Those percentages answer different questions: the first concerned authorization for possible future action; the second concerned approval of a negotiated agreement. They should not be treated as competing measures of the same sentiment.

The company’s filing and results release confirm ratification and describe major provisions, but the cited summaries do not provide the complete contract, detailed pay rates, a full implementation calendar or a peer-airline pay comparison. They also do not disclose exact voting totals. The available record supports saying that a new agreement was ratified, not assigning specific dollar increases or inferring how every provision will affect individual pilots.
