No verified current net-worth figure or estate valuation for Alexander Machkevitch is established by the available sources. Published estimates range from $1.9 billion to $3.7 billion, but they were reported in different years and are not audited valuations of his assets minus liabilities.

Published estimates of Alexander Machkevitch’s wealth

The figures below are historical estimates, not a consistent year-by-year accounting of his fortune. Only the 2006 and 2007 Forbes profiles specify the market-price and exchange-rate dates used in their calculations.

Publication year Reported estimate Source and basis
2006 $2.0 billion Forbes profile; calculated using share prices and exchange rates from February 13, 2006.
2007 $1.9 billion Forbes profile; calculated using share prices and exchange rates from February 9, 2007.
2011 $3.7 billion Forbes Kazakhstan historical ranking profile.
2016 $1.9 billion Forbes contributor Richard Behar reported Forbes’s estimate.

These estimates differ in date and source context, and the cited material does not provide a complete personal balance sheet or a shared valuation method. They should not be averaged or treated as proof of a precise rise or fall in wealth.

Where the reported wealth came from

Forbes Kazakhstan identified Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) as Machkevitch’s income source and described him as an ERG shareholder. It said ownership was shared with Patokh Chodiev, the Ibragimov family, and Kazakhstan’s government (Forbes Kazakhstan; Forbes Kazakhstan profile). This places the reported fortunes in the context of mining and metals interests; it does not establish a present ownership percentage or the value of his estate.

  • Publication Date: 1993

ERG described Machkevitch as one of the company’s founders and said he chaired its board from 2014 to 2024 (ERG announcement).

Is there a current net worth or estate value?

No verified current personal net worth or estate valuation is established by these sources. ERG announced that Machkevitch died on March 22, 2025, aged 71 (ERG announcement). A historical wealth estimate is not a posthumous appraisal: it does not account for later asset values, liabilities, ownership changes, or estate arrangements.

Name variations and a reported quotation

Sources also spell his surname as Mashkevich or Machkevitch. In an interview published by JTA / New York Jewish Week on April 12, 2011, he was quoted as saying, “Every day we see that information is more powerful than military troops or weapons” (JTA / New York Jewish Week).
