Akamai completed its acquisition of Noname Security in June 2024. Akamai’s completion announcement put the price at approximately $450 million; its later 2025 Form 10-K reported $452.3 million in cash. The deal was intended to strengthen Akamai’s API security business, and the company says it now offers a complete API security suite.

When did Akamai complete the Noname acquisition?

Akamai announced the agreement on May 7, 2024, and expected the deal to close in the second quarter, subject to customary closing conditions. Its announcement said it would acquire all outstanding equity of Noname Security for approximately $450 million, subject to customary purchase-price adjustments.

Akamai Vice President Michael Kleef later wrote that the transaction closed on June 24. The company announced completion the following day, June 25. Kleef’s June 25 post and Akamai’s completion release document those dates.

How much did Akamai pay for Noname?

The amount depends on which company disclosure is being quoted. Akamai’s May and June 2024 announcements described the consideration as approximately $450 million. In its 2025 Form 10-K, Akamai reported the acquisition at $452.3 million in cash. The first was an approximate deal-announcement figure; the latter is the amount reported in the later filing.

Why did Akamai acquire Noname?

Akamai said the acquisition would enhance its existing API Security offering as use of APIs expanded. It expected to extend protection across different API traffic locations, integrations and deployment requirements, and to add Noname’s sales and marketing resources and channel and alliance relationships. Those were Akamai’s stated strategic aims, not an independent assessment of the deal’s results.

In its May 2024 announcement, Akamai said it expected Noname’s technology to improve discovery of “shadow” APIs—APIs operating outside an organization’s formal inventory—and detection of vulnerabilities and attacks. The company later reported in its 2025 Form 10-K that it offers a complete API security suite for discovering shadow APIs and detecting vulnerabilities and attacks.

What happened to Noname’s product?

Akamai described a plan to combine the two companies’ API security products. On June 25, 2024, Kleef wrote: “We are integrating the best of the Noname API Security and of Akamai API Security to create a unified product: Akamai API Security.” Akamai’s later filing describes the resulting offering as a complete API security suite. That is the company’s product description, not an independent evaluation of its performance or effectiveness.

What did Akamai say about API attacks?

To explain the demand for API protection, Akamai’s May 7, 2024 announcement said its data showed 109% year-over-year growth in API attacks. The release did not provide a separate methodology or specify the comparison period beyond “year over year,” so the figure should be understood as a claim attributed to Akamai, not as an independently audited or market-wide statistic.

The release quoted Mani Sundaram, Akamai’s executive vice president and general manager of its Security Technology Group: “Applications run our world, but as applications and users proliferate, so do security risks.” Sundaram’s statement and the attack-growth figure appeared in Akamai’s acquisition announcement.
