Ajit Jain Net Worth: What Public Filings Do—and Don’t—Reveal

Public records disclose Ajit Jain’s Berkshire compensation and certain share transactions, but not a complete personal balance sheet. Here’s how to interpret estimates.

A reliably verified total for Ajit Jain’s personal net worth is not available in the public records cited here. Berkshire Hathaway’s proxy discloses his compensation, and SEC filings report certain share transactions and ownership categories, but neither provides a complete account of his assets and liabilities. Online net-worth figures should therefore be treated as estimates, not confirmed totals.

What is Ajit Jain’s net worth?

No independently verified figure for Jain’s total personal net worth is established by the available sources. A net-worth estimate based on publicly reported Berkshire shares can describe only the holdings it counts; it cannot establish the value of all of Jain’s assets, debts, or other investments.

That distinction matters because public records use different ownership categories. Shares held directly, through family trusts, or by a foundation should not automatically be added together and described as Jain’s personal property.

What Berkshire disclosed about Jain’s compensation

Berkshire Hathaway’s 2026 proxy statement reports total compensation of $22,017,500 for 2025: a $22,000,000 salary and $17,500 in other compensation. This is compensation for a particular year, not a measure of accumulated wealth or net worth. Berkshire Hathaway’s 2026 proxy statement

For historical context, Berkshire’s 2024 proxy reported $20,016,500 in total compensation for 2023. It also identified Jain as Vice Chairman–Insurance Operations and said he had joined the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group in 1986. The proxy described him as age 72 at the time of that document; that age is not a current-age statement. Berkshire Hathaway’s 2024 proxy statement

What SEC share disclosures show

A Form 4 filed on September 29, 2026 reports that Jain Foundation, Inc. sold 39,700 Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares on September 28 at an average price of $503.0926. The filing identifies the foundation as the seller; it should not be described as a personal sale by Jain. It also separates shares held directly, through family trusts, and by the foundation, rather than treating them as one undifferentiated personal holding. SEC Form 4 filed September 29, 2026

Rank #2

Bloomberg reported that in September 2024 Jain sold 200 Berkshire Class A shares for about $139 million and retained control of 166 such shares after the transaction, including 61 held directly. Those figures describe a historical transaction and position at that time, not a current balance or a net-worth total. Bloomberg’s September 2024 report

Why online estimates differ

Third-party profile pages have published substantially different estimates. GuruFocus presents an estimate based on reported stock ownership and cautions that it may not reflect actual net worth; Benzinga displays a much lower estimate based on reported Berkshire shares. These are calculations built from selected public disclosures, not independently verified personal balance sheets. GuruFocus profile · Benzinga profile

When assessing any estimate, check its valuation date and share-price date, whether it counts only directly held shares or also indirect holdings, and how it treats trusts or foundations. Public filings do not establish Jain’s full private assets, other investments, or liabilities, so a stock-based calculation cannot settle his total net worth.

Jain’s Berkshire role

Berkshire’s 2024 proxy said Jain had been a director and Vice Chairman–Insurance Operations since 2018, and had been an executive vice president of National Indemnity Company since 1996. His senior role helps explain why compensation and Berkshire share disclosures attract attention, but neither his title nor tenure establishes a personal net-worth figure.
