The AirPods Pro 3 have been available below $200 again, but the “first time” claim is inaccurate. Accessible retailer listings showed a new pair at $189.99 at Walmart and $199.99 at Best Buy, compared with a $249.99 list price. That works out to a discount of roughly 20% to 24% before tax, depending on the retailer.
The better question is whether you need them now. The model previously reached $179, so $189.99 is a strong deal—not the lowest price recorded.

No, this is not the first time AirPods Pro 3 have fallen below $200
The original wording confuses “the first time in 2026” with “the first time ever.” The price history is more complicated:
- January 7, 2026: MacRumors reported a $199.99 price and described it as the first return to that tracked price that year.
- March 18, 2026: Amazon reportedly matched the $199.99 price.
- June 10, 2026: The price reached $179, reported at the time as a new all-time low.
- June 16, 2026: NBC News Select also reported the model below $200 and at its lowest price.
- August 6, 2026: TechRadar reported Amazon pricing of $189.99, calling it the lowest price since Prime Day.

The “up to 2x” noise-cancellation figure is an Apple test claim, not a guarantee that every listener will experience twice as much noise reduction. Hearing and workout features can also depend on compatible hardware, software, settings and region. They are not a substitute for professional medical equipment or advice.

Should you buy at $189.99 or $199.99?
Buy now if you are replacing old earbuds
The deal makes the most sense for an iPhone owner buying premium Apple earbuds for the first time, replacing aging AirPods or upgrading from a model with deteriorating battery life. At $189.99, you are saving $60 from list price while getting the current Pro model. A $199.99 Best Buy offer can also be worthwhile if it provides better stock, pickup, returns or seller confidence.

Compare first if you own AirPods Pro 2
The upgrade is not automatic. Pro 2 owners may notice improved noise cancellation, a different fit, newer health-related features and other software capabilities. But someone already satisfied with the Pro 2 may see limited everyday benefit, particularly if the newer fit is less comfortable.

Those reviews are useful signals, not controlled testing. If fit is uncertain, prioritize a retailer with a straightforward return policy.
Wait if you are chasing the lowest price
Shoppers who are highly price-sensitive may want to wait for another $179-style promotion. The $189.99 price is historically good, but it is not the record established by the June deal. Waiting carries the usual risk that stock or discounts will disappear.

New versus open-box or refurbished
Do not assume every price displayed on a product page applies to a new pair sold directly by the retailer. Check all of the following:
- The condition says new, not open-box, restored, refurbished or used.
- The listing identifies the seller and shipper.
- The product is the standard white AirPods Pro 3, model MFHP4LL/A, Best Buy SKU 6376563, rather than an unrelated accessory or alternative offer.
- The return window and warranty terms are clear.
- The final checkout total still reflects the advertised price.
Best Buy describes open-box products as items opened and returned by another customer. A marketplace or restored pair may cost less, but it may not offer the same warranty, support or condition certainty as a new retailer-sold unit. For a purchase near $200, a slightly higher price from a reliable seller can be the better financial decision.

- AirPods Pro 2: Worth comparing if remaining stock is substantially cheaper and you do not need the Pro 3 features.
- AirPods 4 with ANC: A better design choice for shoppers who dislike silicone ear tips, though they provide a different fit and generally less physical isolation than the Pro line.
- Beats and other ANC earbuds: Better candidates for Android users or shoppers prioritizing lower prices, multipoint connectivity or less dependence on Apple devices.
Exact alternative prices change frequently, so compare the total cost and features rather than assuming a lower sticker price is the better value.

Bottom line
At $189.99, the AirPods Pro 3 are a strong buy for iPhone users who want Apple’s premium earbuds and can confirm that the pair is new and sold by a reputable retailer. At $199.99, they remain reasonably priced if the retailer offers better fulfillment or returns.
But this is not their first sub-$200 deal: the model reportedly reached $199.99 in January and $179 in June. Buy now if you need new earbuds; wait if you already own AirPods Pro 2 or specifically want to beat the $179 record.
