The $169 AirPods Pro 2 deal was real, but it was a historical Amazon promotion from April 28, 2025—not a verified August 2026 offer. Macworld reported that price for the USB-C model against Apple’s cited $249 MSRP, making it more than 30% off and the lowest price it had seen that year at the time. Later 2025 sales reached $149 and $139, so the headline should not be read as the product’s full-year record.
What the $169 deal actually meant
Amazon temporarily sold the AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case and USB-C charging case for $169 in the U.S. on April 28, 2025. Macworld compared that selling price with Apple’s $249 reference price and described it as the lowest AirPods Pro 2 price of 2025 at that point. The report and its 4.5-star review are available from Macworld.
That wording describes a price observed by the publication on a specific date. It does not mean $169 was the lowest price the earbuds would reach during the entire year, nor does it establish a current price. Promotional inventory, seller, condition and coupon requirements can all change on an Amazon listing.
Was $169 really the lowest AirPods Pro 2 price of 2025?
Only temporarily. Later deal coverage recorded lower prices:

Why the earbuds were compelling at a discount
AirPods Pro 2 launched in 2023 with Apple’s H2 headphone chip. The USB-C case supports MagSafe, Apple Watch, Qi-certified and USB-C charging.

- Double-tap to play or skip forward
- New Apple H1 headphone chip delivers faster wireless connection to your devices
Apple also added hearing-related capabilities through software and firmware updates. The platform includes Hearing Test, Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection where the hardware, firmware, operating system and region support them. These additions made the discount more meaningful than a simple reduction on an older launch product.

Hearing features have important limits
Apple says Hearing Aid is intended for people age 18 or older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. It requires AirPods Pro 2 or later with current firmware and a compatible iPhone or iPad; availability varies by country. See Apple’s Hearing Aid support page for the stated requirements.
Hearing Protection likewise requires compatible Apple software and has regional limitations. Apple says it is not intended to protect against extremely loud impulse sounds such as gunfire, fireworks or jackhammers. Neither feature replaces professional hearing care or certified hearing protection.

AirPods Pro 2 versus AirPods Pro 3
Apple introduced AirPods Pro 3 in 2025, so a buyer evaluating a deep Pro 2 discount should compare generations rather than assume the older model is automatically the best choice.
| Consideration | AirPods Pro 2 | AirPods Pro 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Generation | Introduced in 2023 | Introduced in 2025 |
| Workout sensing | No heart-rate sensing listed | Heart-rate sensing for workouts |
| Resistance rating | IP54 | IP57 |
| Earbud battery | Up to six hours | Up to eight hours with ANC on |
| Case listening total | Up to 30 hours | Up to 24 hours with ANC under Apple’s listed condition |
| Ear-tip sizes | Four | Five |
Pro 3 is the logical choice for buyers who want the newest hardware, heart-rate sensing or the higher resistance rating. Pro 2 can be the better value when its price is substantially lower and the buyer values its longer stated total case runtime or does not need those additions. Apple’s full Pro 3 specifications are at Apple Support.

Who should consider AirPods Pro 2?
Good fit
- iPhone, iPad or Mac owners who want automatic pairing, device switching, hands-free Siri and Find My integration.
- Listeners who prioritize noise cancellation, Transparency mode or a compact in-ear design.
- Eligible Apple-device users interested in Hearing Test or Hearing Aid features.
- Shoppers who find a verified new USB-C model at a meaningful discount to the newer generation.
Less suitable
- Android-first users, who will not receive the full Apple ecosystem experience.
- Anyone who dislikes silicone ear tips, in-ear pressure or the fit variability of sealed earbuds.
- Buyers who need the newest hardware, workout heart-rate sensing or maximum single-charge battery life.
- People expecting AirPods to replace professional hearing care or certified hearing protection.
- Customers considering an unknown marketplace seller with unclear authenticity, warranty or returns.
Checklist before buying a discounted listing
- Confirm the connector: Make sure the listing says USB-C and includes the MagSafe Charging Case, rather than an older Lightning-case version.
- Check condition: Verify that the item is new, not refurbished, renewed or open-box unless that is intentional.
- Inspect the seller: Review “Sold by” and “Shipped by,” return terms and warranty eligibility. Amazon search results can combine multiple offers.
- Check the model: Distinguish AirPods Pro 2 from AirPods Pro 3 and confirm the package contents.
- Verify the price immediately: Historical deal coverage is not proof of today’s price, stock or coupon requirements.
Apple’s technical specifications and package details are listed at Apple Support. Apple’s general product destination is apple.com/airpods-pro; a retailer link should point to the exact, verified offer rather than a generic search page.
The Bottom Line
$169 was an excellent April 2025 price for the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 and a genuine 30%-plus reduction from the cited MSRP. It was not the lowest price of the entire year: later promotions reached $149 and $139. In 2026, compare any live Pro 2 offer with AirPods Pro 3 and verify the exact model, seller, condition and current price before purchasing.
