Boeing finished 2025 with more net commercial-aircraft orders than Airbus: 1,173 versus 889, a lead of 284 aircraft. Airbus reported 1,000 gross orders before cancellations, so comparing that figure directly with Boeing’s net total would mix two different measures.
How many net orders did Airbus and Boeing report in 2025?
In company results published in January 2026, Boeing reported 1,173 net Commercial Airplanes orders for full-year 2025. Airbus reported 889 net commercial-aircraft orders for the same period. On that like-for-like net basis, Boeing led by 284 aircraft.
These are company-reported annual totals. They have not been independently reconciled here against transaction-level data, and the figures alone do not show when cancellations occurred, whether orders will convert to deliveries, or the financial value of each order.
Why does Airbus report both 1,000 and 889 orders?
Airbus reported 1,000 gross orders in 2025—the number recorded before cancellations were subtracted—and 889 net orders after cancellations. Boeing’s cited full-year result gives its net figure, 1,173. The fair headline comparison is therefore Boeing’s 1,173 net orders against Airbus’s 889 net orders, not Boeing’s net total against Airbus’s gross total.

Airbus said its 1,000 gross orders came from 57 customers and included 49 A220s, 656 A320s, 100 A330neos, two A330 MRTTs, and 193 A350s. The company’s published net total is lower because it accounts for cancellations.
Orders, deliveries, and backlog are different measures
Orders count aircraft booked during a period; deliveries count aircraft handed over to customers during that period; backlog is the number of aircraft remaining on the order book at a year-end snapshot. They answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably.

The backlog figures are aircraft counts, not order totals booked during 2025. Boeing describes its count as over 6,100; its results also give a company-wide backlog value of $682 billion, which includes commercial airplanes and should not be read as the value of Boeing’s commercial-aircraft backlog alone.
What did each company deliver in 2025?
Airbus delivered 793 commercial aircraft, compared with Boeing’s 600. Airbus’s higher delivery count does not change the net-order result: deliveries represent handovers, not new orders booked.

What the 2025 comparison does—and does not—show
The reported totals establish which company booked more net commercial-aircraft orders in 2025, but they are not a complete measure of commercial performance. They do not by themselves establish the value or profitability of orders, future delivery timing, or how many orders will ultimately be fulfilled.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury described the company’s operating context in its full-year release: “Global demand for commercial aircraft underpins our ongoing production ramp-up, which we are managing while facing significant Pratt & Whitney engine shortages.” That is Airbus’s characterization of its demand and supply environment, not an independently measured industry conclusion.
