Directionally, Boeing appears to have had more widebody orders—but the available figures do not support a precise, like-for-like manufacturer-wide comparison. Airbus reported 285 net widebody orders for 2025. Boeing said in November that more than 300 orders had been added to the 787 backlog during the year, but that figure covers one aircraft family and is not a final net total for all Boeing widebodies.
What the 2025 figures show

The figures suggest Boeing’s 787 alone attracted more orders than Airbus recorded across its widebody families. But the comparison is not exact: Airbus’s figure is a full-year net count across widebodies, while Boeing’s is a 787-specific count of orders added to backlog, with no equivalent final, all-widebody net total in the cited release.
Why gross orders, net orders, and backlog are different
- Gross orders count orders placed before cancellations are subtracted.
- Net orders account for cancellations, making them a more useful measure of orders retained over a period.
- Backlog is the stock of outstanding orders at a particular date. It is not the number of orders booked during the year.
- Deliveries count aircraft handed over to customers; they do not measure new orders.
These distinctions matter because Airbus reported 1,000 gross commercial aircraft orders and 889 net orders in 2025, including 100 A330neo and 193 A350 orders. Those company-wide totals include narrowbody aircraft and should not be compared directly with Boeing’s 787-only figure. Airbus’s reported 285 net widebody orders are the relevant widebody total.
What the company-wide totals can—and cannot—tell you
Boeing reported 1,173 net Commercial Airplanes orders and 600 deliveries for 2025, with a commercial airplane backlog exceeding 6,100 aircraft, in its full-year results. Those order and backlog totals cover its commercial portfolio, not just widebodies. Airbus likewise reported commercial-aircraft order totals that include narrowbodies. Comparing the manufacturers’ overall totals would therefore answer which company booked more commercial orders, not which booked more widebody orders.

Backlog comparisons also need matching scopes. Airbus reported a year-end widebody backlog of 1,124 aircraft. Boeing’s cited year-end headline is for its entire commercial airplane backlog, so it is not a comparable Boeing widebody backlog figure.

If the question is which manufacturer appears to have attracted more widebody demand in 2025, the evidence points to Boeing: its 787-family announcement alone cited more than 300 orders added during the year, against Airbus’s 285 net widebody orders. If the question is which manufacturer booked more net orders across its entire widebody portfolio over the full year, the available figures do not establish a definitive winner or an exact margin. Boeing’s cited 787 count is not a final all-family net total, and the two figures are not presented on an identical basis.
