Airbus Leads Boeing in 2026 Orders and Deliveries Through August

Through August 2026, Airbus led Boeing by 659 gross orders and 57 deliveries. Here’s what the comparable figures show—and what they don’t.

Airbus—not Boeing—led both commercial-aircraft gross orders and deliveries through August 2026. Airbus recorded 1,157 gross orders and 475 deliveries, compared with Boeing’s 498 gross orders and 418 deliveries. That gives Airbus a lead of 659 gross orders and 57 deliveries at the end-of-August cutoff; it is not a full-year result.

Who had more aircraft orders through August 2026?

Airbus had more gross orders: 1,157 through August, against Boeing’s 498, according to Forecast International’s 2026 comparison. The comparison uses gross orders and excludes Boeing’s ASC 606 accounting adjustments. These figures are not Boeing’s official net order count.

“Gross” and “net” orders are different measures. Gross orders count orders before cancellations; net orders account for cancellations. Airbus’s own first-half results illustrate the distinction: it reported 886 gross commercial-aircraft orders and 821 net orders for H1 2026. Those first-half figures should not be compared as if they were the same period or basis as the August year-to-date totals.

Who delivered more aircraft?

Airbus also led in deliveries through August: 475 aircraft, compared with Boeing’s 418, a difference of 57. Airbus’s monthly orders-and-deliveries page reports 475 deliveries year to date through August and says its data are valid at the end of that month. Forecast International provides the matched Boeing comparison.

How the two companies’ reported figures compare

Measure Airbus Boeing Basis and source
Gross orders through August 2026 1,157 498 Forecast International comparison; gross orders, with Boeing ASC 606 accounting adjustments excluded.
Deliveries through August 2026 475 418 Airbus official monthly page for Airbus; Forecast International comparison for Boeing. Cutoff: end of August.
H1 2026 gross orders 886 not stated Airbus H1 results; the comparison sources do not provide a matched Boeing H1 gross-order figure.
H1 2026 net orders 821 not stated Airbus H1 results; net orders account for cancellations.
H1 2026 deliveries 351 314 through Q2 Airbus H1 results and Boeing’s official Q2 release. Boeing’s figure is year to date through June, not August.

Airbus reported its H1 figures in its H1 2026 results release. Boeing’s Q2 2026 release reported 314 commercial deliveries year to date through June and notes delivery information is not considered final until quarterly results are issued. The August comparison uses a later cutoff, so the June figures provide context rather than a like-for-like August comparison.

What the short-term lead does—and does not—show

Orders indicate customer commitments, while deliveries record aircraft handed over. An order lead does not mean those aircraft have already been built or delivered. Certification schedules and production execution influence when commitments turn into deliveries.

Boeing’s Q2 filing discussed expected 2026 certification for the 737-7 and 737-10 and expected the first 777-9 delivery in 2027, subject to regulators and other factors. Airbus’s H1 results described production-rate targets, including 70–75 A320 Family aircraft per month by the end of 2027 and an A350 rate of 12 in 2028. These are company plans and expectations, not guaranteed output. See Boeing’s Q2 2026 SEC filing and Airbus’s H1 results for the stated context.

Backlog is another measure of future demand, but the available figures do not establish a directly comparable August 2026 backlog for both manufacturers. Airbus reported a commercial-aircraft backlog of 9,222 at June 30; that alone cannot establish which company had the larger backlog at the August cutoff.

Does this establish who will lead at year-end?

No. The figures show Airbus ahead through August 2026, not who will finish the year with more orders or deliveries. Later cancellations, new orders, production rates, certification outcomes, and handover timing can change the totals. The August comparison is a dated snapshot, not a full-year forecast.
