Airbnb.org partnered with 211 LA to connect people displaced by the January 2025 Los Angeles fires with free temporary stays funded by Airbnb.org credits. The offer was distributed through community partners—not a public Airbnb application—and current guidance does not establish that new referrals for the LA response are still being accepted.
How the Los Angeles wildfire housing offer worked
Airbnb.org worked with 211 LA, which identified people affected by the fires who were most in need. Eligible guests received credits to book free stays on Airbnb. The 211 LA partnership was a referral pathway; it was not a general sign-up form for anyone seeking a place to stay.
Maribel Marin, executive director of 211 LA, said the organizations stood up the program within hours of the fires and that it had become a critical resource for Angelenos forced from their homes. Airbnb’s January 29, 2025 update described the referral effort and quoted Marin.
What Airbnb reported about the program’s scale
In its January 29, 2025 update, Airbnb reported that more than 17,000 people had booked over 63,000 nights through the Los Angeles response. The same update said Airbnb.org was committed to funding 100,000 free nights and that Airbnb and Airbnb.org had committed more than $26 million to emergency housing efforts in Los Angeles. The booking totals describe activity reported on that date; the 100,000 nights and $26 million were commitments, not figures for completed stays or completed spending.

A separate housing-credit program for union members
On January 21, 2025, Airbnb announced a separate commitment of $1 million in Airbnb credits for union members displaced by the fires. The LA County Federation of Labor received the credits, and its nonprofit arm, Labor Community Services, helped identify members most in need. This was distinct from the 211 LA referral pathway for the broader wildfire response. Airbnb’s announcement describes the labor-federation initiative.
Can you apply for a free Airbnb stay now?
Airbnb.org’s current guidance says it does not provide a direct intake process for individuals. It works through nonprofit organizations and resettlement agencies, and people affected by major disasters may be among those eligible for emergency stays. That general eligibility guidance does not confirm that referrals for the 2025 Los Angeles fires remain open. Contact a local relief organization or 211 LA to ask whether assistance is currently available; do not assume that an old program announcement means new bookings or referrals are being accepted. See Airbnb.org’s emergency-stay eligibility guidance.

How to support Airbnb.org’s emergency housing work
Airbnb.org says people can help by hosting or donating. Hosts can offer a discounted stay or donate a portion of their payouts; donations support the organization’s work providing emergency stays. These are support options, not application routes for people seeking a stay. Airbnb.org’s About Airbnb.org page explains its nonprofit work and ways to contribute.
