Since May 2025, it has added services and redesigned Experiences; its May 20, 2026 Summer Release added or announced groceries, airport transfers, luggage storage, car rentals, boutique hotels, group-planning tools, social connections and new AI features.
The practical reality on August 18, 2026 is more limited than an “everything app” slogan suggests. Availability depends on the country, city, partner and rollout stage, and several announced tools were still scheduled to arrive later.
What changed, and when?
- May 2025: Airbnb launched Services, redesigned Experiences and a unified app for homes, services and activities. The company described the release as its largest product launch to date and said it planned to invest approximately $200 million to $250 million in the new businesses. Those investment figures come from Airbnb and its investor communications, not an independently audited Services budget. Airbnb’s 2025 Summer Release
- Late 2025: Airbnb added social features for Experiences and expanded AI customer support. Airbnb’s 2025 Winter Release
- March 2026: Welcome Pickups airport transfers began expanding through Airbnb, initially in more than 125 cities across Asia, Europe and Latin America. Welcome Pickups announcement
- May 20, 2026: Airbnb announced grocery delivery, broader airport transfers, luggage storage, car-rental discovery, boutique hotels, additional Experiences, shared itineraries, a travel-and-connections map and AI review and comparison tools. Airbnb’s 2026 Summer Release
The March airport-transfer announcement referred to more than 125 cities, while the May release cited more than 160. Those are dated snapshots during an expansion, not necessarily conflicting totals.
What travelers can book
| Category | What Airbnb announced | Status and geographic limits |

| Services | Private chefs, prepared meals, catering, wellness, beauty, fitness, photography, grocery delivery, transfers and luggage storage | Market-specific; many services are fulfilled by partners |
| Experiences | Landmark tours, food and culture, sports, events, wellness and local activities | Inventory varies by destination; Airbnb claimed more than 3,000 landmark and 2,500 food-culture Experiences in 2026 |
| Airport transfers | Pre-booked rides through Welcome Pickups | More than 160 cities in the May announcement; partner coverage varies |
| Groceries | Delivery and possible pre-stocking through Instacart | More than 25 U.S. cities; the cited free-delivery and $10-off-$50 promotion ended June 30, 2026 |
| Luggage storage | Storage through Bounce | More than 15,000 locations in 175 cities, subject to local inventory |
| Car rentals | Direct discovery in the Airbnb app | Announced for a summer 2026 rollout; partner, market and launch timing can change |
| Boutique hotels | Thousands of independent and boutique hotels | Initially 20 top destinations; not presented as universal chain-hotel coverage |
Services around a home stay
The service marketplace is intended to handle needs before, during and after a reservation. A guest might arrange a chef, catering, wellness appointment, photographer, airport pickup, groceries or bag storage without leaving Airbnb. Instacart, Welcome Pickups and Bounce perform important parts of the underlying fulfillment, so the Airbnb booking screen does not mean Airbnb operates every service itself.

Experiences
The redesigned Experiences marketplace emphasizes local hosts and activities: landmark tours, food and culinary events, sports, wellness, culture and events tied to major occasions. Airbnb promoted FIFA World Cup 2026 Experiences in six host cities and claimed more than 3,000 landmark and 2,500 food-culture listings. Inventory changes, so those company-reported counts should not be treated as a guarantee of availability.
Airbnb also reported an average Experiences rating of 4.93 out of 5, based on its internal global data from May 13, 2025 through March 31, 2026. That is an Airbnb metric, not an independent review audit.

Eligible bookings could earn up to 15% in Airbnb credit through December 31, 2026, subject to caps, exclusions and terms. Its price-match program was described as Airbnb credit for an eligible difference requested within 24 hours, with a stated maximum of $400—not a universal cash refund.
How the social layer works
Experience connections
Airbnb’s 2025 social tools let guests see who else is attending an Experience and where they are from, message people they met and plan another activity together. The aim is to make an activity more social, rather than simply a ticketed appointment. Airbnb’s Winter Release
Group trips and travel maps
The 2026 release announced shared itineraries, a map placing reservations alongside nearby restaurants and activities, and a connections feature for friends and family. Airbnb said users would be able to see connections’ trips, bookings and reviews, exchange recommendations and view where contacts had traveled or planned to go. The connections and travel map were described as arriving later in summer 2026, so they should not be assumed to be active on every account on August 18.

What Airbnb’s AI actually does
Discovery and trip planning
Airbnb says it is applying AI to search and discovery so the platform can help with more of the trip, not only the lodging query. Its longer-term objective is a unified travel search experience. That is a roadmap, not evidence of a fully autonomous travel agent. Q4 2025 results and shareholder letter
Review highlights and listing comparison
The Summer Release announced AI-generated highlights of recurring review themes, such as location, amenities and family-friendliness. It also announced comparison summaries for saved homes, including location context and notable amenities. Comparison was described as becoming available later in 2026. Users should still open the underlying reviews: a frequent minor complaint and a rare but serious safety issue should not be treated as equivalent, and a summary can omit an unusual detail.

Customer support
Airbnb said its AI support assistant was available worldwide in 11 languages, used trip context and offered interactive cards inside chat, with voice support planned. In Q1 2026, Airbnb reported that more than 40% of issues submitted through the assistant were resolved without a human, up from roughly one-third in Q4 2025. This is a company-reported resolution measure, not proof that responses are always correct or that customers were satisfied. Airbnb Q1 2026 results
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Airbnb is broadening the platform
More value from each traveler
A lodging booking can now be surrounded by transfers, groceries, luggage storage, a rental car, an Experience or a future hotel reservation. Airbnb said nearly one-quarter of guests new to Airbnb who booked an Experience later booked a stay or service, and roughly one in three Experience bookers booked a stay within 90 days. These are Airbnb’s internal figures, not an independently verified conversion study. Q1 2026 results
Competing with hotels and travel intermediaries
Hotels traditionally help with transfers, dining, concierge requests, activities and wellness. Airbnb is narrowing that functional gap while adding hotel inventory of its own. The strategy does not mean Airbnb is replacing hotels; it means the company wants to capture the booking regardless of whether a traveler chooses a home, hotel or activity.

New entry points and more data
Someone searching for a concert-related Experience, airport ride or hotel may become an Airbnb customer without first seeking a home. Combining reservations, itineraries, reviews and support history also gives Airbnb more context for personalization. The unresolved question is whether that context produces durable, incremental bookings rather than moving existing demand among categories.
What the expansion means for each participant
Travelers
- Potentially fewer apps for lodging, activities, transfers and trip coordination.
- More choice when a home is unavailable or unsuitable.
- Partner-specific cancellation, refund, tax, insurance and support rules.
- AI summaries and social maps that can omit important details or expose travel history.
- Bundled services can make responsibility unclear when a third party fails.
Hosts and Experiences hosts
- Services and Experiences create additional earning opportunities and may generate demand for stays.
- Guests may expect hotel-like support from independent hosts.
- Grocery access, substitutions, food safety, timing and partner failures can create liability or operational disputes.
- AI descriptions may influence how a listing is perceived even when a summary is incomplete.
- Experience hosts must account for safety, eligibility, identity, cancellation and insurance requirements.
Hotels
Airbnb can provide audience and distribution for independent properties, but hotels must weigh commissions, channel-management work, rate-parity issues and the loss of direct loyalty-program relationships. Guests who value points and elite benefits may still prefer booking direct.
Airbnb
The upside is higher potential revenue per traveler, more frequent app use, cross-selling and a broader defense against hotel groups, travel-search sites and emerging AI trip planners. The risks are operational complexity, partner dependence, inconsistent quality, privacy failures and AI mistakes during high-stakes travel problems. Airbnb’s filings describe the expansion, but the cited disclosures do not report Services and Experiences as a mature standalone financial segment with a definitive revenue figure. How to read Airbnb’s “everything travel” claim
Airbnb has built a broader marketplace, not a single fully integrated hotel operation. Some products are live only in selected cities; some depend on external providers; and several 2026 features were announced for later rollout. Treat “everything app” as a description of Airbnb’s ambition.
Before booking, verify the destination, total price, taxes and fees, cancellation policy, provider, insurance, refund path and whether support is handled by Airbnb or the partner. For AI-generated summaries, inspect the original reviews. For social tools, review visibility and future-trip controls. For hotels and transfers, compare the direct price and benefits before assuming an Airbnb credit is the best value.
Availability checklist dated August 18, 2026
- Available in selected markets: Services, redesigned Experiences, Instacart grocery delivery, Welcome Pickups transfers, Bounce luggage storage and boutique hotels.
- Rolling out or market-dependent: Car-rental discovery, the redesigned homepage and shared itinerary tools.
- Announced for later: AI-powered listing comparison and the friends-and-family connections/travel map.
- Promotional: Hotel credits and price-match credits have eligibility limits; the cited Instacart promotion ended June 30, 2026.
Airbnb’s own release language uses “select cities,” “select countries” and “rolling out later.” The only reliable test is the live Airbnb account and destination-specific checkout.
