Air India unveiled a new global brand identity and aircraft livery on August 10, 2023, as part of its Vihaan.AI transformation. The redesign introduced a gold window-frame motif, a logo symbol called “The Vista,” a deep-red, aubergine and gold palette, and custom Air India Sans typography. The airline began rolling the identity out across digital channels and at Delhi and Mumbai airports in December 2023; its first A350-900 in the new livery arrived on December 23, 2023.
What Air India announced
On August 10, 2023, Air India announced a new global identity and aircraft livery, presenting them as part of its Vihaan.AI transformation. The airline said passengers would begin seeing the design on its first A350, then expected in December 2023. Air India credited FutureBrand as its brand transformation design partner.
Campbell Wilson, then Air India’s CEO and managing director, described the ambition as “to make Air India a world class airline serving guests from around the globe, and that represents a new India proudly on the global stage.” That is the airline’s stated ambition, not evidence by itself of improved customer opinion or business performance.
What the new visual identity looks like
The gold window frame and Vista symbol
Air India said the design reworks the Indian window motif used in its history as a gold window frame, which the airline calls a “Window of Possibilities.” Its logo symbol, named “The Vista,” takes inspiration from the peak of that frame. The new identity therefore retains a reference to the airline’s past while presenting it in a changed form.

Colors, pattern and type
The announced aircraft palette combines deep red and aubergine with gold highlights. Air India also described a chakra-inspired pattern and introduced a custom typeface, Air India Sans. These descriptions explain the airline’s design choices; how passengers interpret them is a separate question.

These are dated launch and rollout milestones. They do not establish when every aircraft received the new paint scheme or when a fleet-wide transition was complete.

What the announcement does—and does not—show
The launch materials explain the identity Air India intended to present and describe the initial rollout. They do not establish whether the redesign changed customer opinion, service quality, or airline performance. Wilson also emphasized that “our actions speak so much louder” than colors and shapes; the design announcement is not a measure of those actions or their results.
