Air Canada’s July 15, 2026 announcement is a loyalty-program collaboration between Aeroplan and World of Hyatt—not a new global airline alliance. It describes ways to earn, redeem, or convert points, plus status benefits for some eligible members. The official announcements do not establish that travelers broadly see “red flags”; the practical questions are who qualifies, what each reward costs, and whether its terms suit your trip.
What Air Canada announced—and what it did not
Air Canada and Hyatt say members can connect Aeroplan and World of Hyatt accounts to use selected rewards and benefits across the programs. The companies describe their combined networks as spanning more than 1,300 destinations and 1,500 hotels. That is a description of the networks, not a promise that every hotel stay or flight is eligible for every benefit. Air Canada’s July 15, 2026 announcement and Hyatt’s announcement set out the collaboration’s terms at a high level.
The releases describe a loyalty tie-up, not a newly formed airline alliance. A separate Air Canada–Abra Group memorandum announced June 7, 2026, concerns proposed deeper airline cooperation in the Americas. That memorandum says a final agreement remains subject to final documentation and regulatory approval; it is distinct from the Aeroplan–Hyatt collaboration. Air Canada’s Abra Group announcement.
How points can move between Aeroplan and Hyatt
| Option | What the announcement says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Use Aeroplan points for Hyatt | Eligible World of Hyatt Free Night Awards, including Category 1–4 and Category 1–7 awards, start at 25,000 Aeroplan points. | The award categories and eligible-property availability matter; the starting amount does not establish the price of every night. |
| Use Hyatt points for Air Canada rewards | 30,000 World of Hyatt points can be redeemed for an Aeroplan flight reward certificate for Air Canada and partner-airline flight rewards. | The certificate is the stated reward; it is not a general cash-equivalent credit. |
| Earn Aeroplan points on a Hyatt stay | Members can choose 500 Aeroplan points per eligible participating Hyatt stay instead of earning World of Hyatt points. | The choice applies to eligible participating stays; check the current program terms. |
| Convert Hyatt points to Aeroplan | World of Hyatt points convert at 2:1, starting at 5,000 points, with subsequent conversions in 1,000-point increments. | Minimums and increments apply. |
| Convert Aeroplan points to Hyatt | Linked Aeroplan Elite members can convert at 2:1. | The announcement specifies minimums and daily and weekly limits; consult current terms before transferring. |
A 2:1 ratio applies to the described point conversions, but the directions are not interchangeable in eligibility or limits. Nor does a ratio alone show whether a transfer is worthwhile: the releases do not set a universal cash value for either program’s points. Compare the specific award you can book with the points you would give up, and check availability before transferring.

Who may qualify for status and cardholder benefits
Aeroplan Elite members and eligible premium cardholders
The announcement describes a 90-day World of Hyatt status challenge for Aeroplan Elite members and eligible premium cardholders. Completing four qualifying nights earns Discoverist, 10 earns Explorist, and 20 earns Globalist. These are challenge thresholds, not automatic status grants. Hyatt Globalist benefits listed in the announcement include free breakfast for up to four people, room upgrades when available, and 4 p.m. checkout.
Eligible Canadian Aeroplan cardholders
For linked accounts and eligible participating Hyatt stays, the announcement lists different combined point-earning rates per eligible C$1 spent for Aeroplan Premium, Premium Business, Core, and Core Business cardholders. The rates vary by card type. The announcement’s summary does not establish one rate that applies to every Canadian Aeroplan card, so verify the qualifying card and current offer terms before relying on an earning estimate.

What the “red flags” claim does—and does not—show
The Air Canada and Hyatt announcements explain program benefits and note that offers are subject to terms and conditions. They do not document representative traveler reactions or establish specific traveler concerns. The headline’s claim that travelers see red flags therefore is not supported by these official materials; it should not be treated as evidence of broad customer sentiment.
There are, however, concrete details a member should check before committing points or counting on a perk: account-linking requirements, eligible card type and status, participating properties, award availability, transfer minimums and limits, and the nights and time window for a status challenge. A transfer is especially worth checking carefully because the announcements describe different thresholds and restrictions by direction, and the point ratio does not guarantee that a redemption is good value for your circumstances.

How to decide whether the collaboration is useful to you
- Confirm eligibility. Check whether you need a linked account, Aeroplan Elite status, a qualifying Canadian card, Hyatt status, or a participating stay for the specific benefit you want.
- Identify the exact reward. Distinguish a Hyatt Free Night Award from an Aeroplan flight reward certificate, and check the award category or certificate terms rather than treating points as cash.
- Check availability before transferring. Confirm that the hotel award or flight reward you want can be booked, then review the relevant conversion minimum, increment, and cap.
- Value only benefits you will use. A status challenge may matter if you can complete its qualifying-night target within 90 days and will use the resulting benefits. Availability-dependent upgrades or checkout times are not guaranteed.
- Recheck the live terms. The releases are dated July 15, 2026, and some features were described as subject to eligibility or becoming available later. Current offer rules should govern any booking or transfer decision.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
