No Air Canada flight attendant strike is documented as expected “next week” in the available official updates. That warning referred to the August 2025 dispute: a strike began on August 16, ended after a tentative agreement on August 19, and the remaining wage issue went to binding arbitration. CUPE reported that the final wage award was issued on February 17, 2026. For a current trip, check Air Canada’s flight-status information and the latest official notices rather than relying on the old warning.
Why the “next week” warning is out of date
The headline referred to a real but historical risk. On August 12, 2025, Air Canada said the parties could issue 72-hour strike or lockout notices starting August 13, potentially stopping operations from August 16. CUPE served strike notice on August 13, and strike and lockout action began August 16. The parties reached a tentative agreement on August 19, ending the strike. Employment and Social Development Canada’s bargaining briefing documents that sequence; Air Canada’s August 12, 2025 statement provides the contemporaneous warning.
A strike mandate, a formal strike notice, a work stoppage, and an arbitration award are different events. The 2025 timeline included each of the first three, followed by arbitration over wages after members rejected the proposed wage terms. None of those historical steps by itself establishes a new strike date now.
What happened after the strike
The wage proposal was rejected
On September 6, 2025, CUPE announced that members rejected the tentative agreement’s wage offer by 99.1%. This was a vote on that wage proposal, not the earlier strike mandate vote. Under the terms described by the Government of Canada, the unresolved wage issue proceeded to arbitration, with no strike or lockout under that agreement’s terms.

- CloudAir Support: This airplane seat cushion is equipped with 49 pressure reducing airbags that can evenly distribute weight, effectively reducing pressure on the coccyx and buttocks and relieving fatigue caused by prolonged sitting(✅ Correct: Inflate to 50–60% capacity; the air chamber should be full but yield noticeably when pressed by hand. On an airplane, 30–40% inflation is recommended.❌ Incorrect: Do not over-inflate until rigid; sitting on an over-inflated cushion will be uncomfortable and negate the pressure-relieving effect.)
- Built in Inflation Pump Design: Compared with other inflatable seat cushions, it does not rely on an external inflation pump and is very convenient to use. Simply press the surface inflation button repeatedly(Tip for easier inflation: Start by blowing one breath of air in, then use the manual pump to adjust the inflation level.)
- Adjustable Comfort: After inflation is complete, you can press the surface adjustment button to slowly release the gas inside the cushion to change its support. You can adjust to the best comfort according to your actual feelings(✅When storing, be sure to open the exhaust valve to release all the air.)
- Portable and Widely Used: When storing, first exhaust the air inside the cushion, then fold the cushion and put it into a storage bag. It is very portable and is an ideal companion for long-distance flights, travel, office work, driving, camping and other scenarios
- Practical Three-layer Structure Design: The smooth surface of the fabric is skin friendly and breathable. The high elasticity and durable TPU layer in the middle can withstand a weight of up to 440 pounds. Paired with a reliable non-slip bottom, it firmly grips chair surfaces and can remain stable even when it bumps or moves suddenly
Arbitration produced a final award
CUPE reported that arbitrator Paula Knopf issued the wage arbitration award on February 17, 2026. In its February 20 update, the union described the award as final and binding. The arbitration addressed the outstanding wage question; it should not be confused with a new strike notice. See CUPE’s February 17 award update and February 20 follow-up.
The collective agreement is available to members
On September 15, 2026, CUPE said printed copies of the collective agreement were available to members. The union’s component homepage displayed member bulletins dated October 1, 5, and 6, 2026, showing recent union activity—not a guarantee that future labour action is impossible. The union has also published the collective agreement effective April 1, 2025.

How large was the dispute?
Employment and Social Development Canada’s 2025 briefing listed 10,307 cabin personnel under the agreement. It recorded that 99.7% of CUPE members voted in favour of a strike mandate, announced August 5, 2025. That was a separate decision from the September 6 vote, when 99.1% rejected the tentative agreement’s wage offer. Both percentages are historical results, not measures of current member sentiment.

- Check your flight’s status directly with Air Canada and review any message attached to your booking.
- Check current official notices from Air Canada and CUPE, along with applicable Government of Canada travel advisories, before making plans based on a reported labour threat.
- If your itinerary changes, use the options Air Canada presents for your specific booking and review the terms that apply to your ticket. The available information here does not establish a current cancellation, rebooking, refund, or compensation entitlement.
The Government of Canada briefing said that, under the terms reached by the parties in 2025, “there can be no strike or lockout.” That statement describes the terms agreed at that point; it is not a promise that no future labour dispute or job action can ever occur.
